RE: Peterson
I wouldn’t bank on Elmarko starting coming back from that type of injury imo. If he can give us a solid 15-20 minutes I’d be fine with that.

@TYOHawk I guess Tyshawn got on X and told him to toughen up. Seems like a lot of former players are calling out the Charmin softies
Frank criticized the leadership on Twitter on Saturday. Devon had a vague tweet today as well. Safe to say the former guys aren’t happy

@TYOHawk juan wasnt the only guy who sucked. But yeah. 2 assists more and Flory could have been our starting PG.
I’m just tired of the passiveness…he hasn’t even attempted a 3 in 3 games….not make! He’s not even attempting 3’s at this point…it kills an offense to get that type of lack of production from a PG
We give him screens all game for him to just pass off.

@TYOHawk in fairness to Juan, Zeke has 1 made 3 point FG in 3 the last games and 13 turnovers lol
Think the social media trolls have gotten to Zeke at this point and he’s in his own head.

How do you play 34 minutes and put up a 2/3/2 box score?

@TYOHawk Don’t forget this is the pg coach says he wouldn’t trade for any other guard in America and he’s just a winner!

Can’t win and won’t win anything with that level of guard play.
Yeppers been saying for 2 years, been catching shit for it too. Which starting PG in the Self outside Juan goes out there and doesn’t impact the game in the slightest? 2 points and 2 assists outta the best pure PG around. People who say that are only bull shitting themselves.
34 minutes… 2/3/2 box score from your 6th year PG. It’s genuinely embarrassing…
Bro he hasn’t even attempted a 3 in the last 3 games. In 2025 we have a PG who is acting scared to shoot a 3

RE: Peterson
DP will be at KU next year. Also, coaches from all schools go and watch committed players. It is called continuing a relationship. You don’t just ignore players when they commit. This isn’t difficult to figure out.
Yup you gotta keep the kids and their camp happy and still make them feel wanted. It’s especially important with how much we’re gonna need Peterson next year.

Its a pipeline. Need continuity. Think of all the players you did appreciate since Embiid / Wiggins. Now consider that their decision to come to Kansas was influenced by their success.
They don’t get it. You don’t get Udoka without Embiid. You don’t get Oubre, Josh and etc without Wiggins.
Peterson being here is huge…we need a new face in the nba and we just need to see what it’s like having elite guard talent after watching Dajuan for 5 years.
-
RE: Lets go 3-0 on the new season
Want to give a shout out to KJ. He battled his tail off out there and I hate that we lost.
But quite simply…the guard play just isn’t good enough. I feel like you could reasonably say this is the worst guard group talent wise we’ve had in almost 20 years.

The three big lineup was absolute bullshit. Nobody who wears crimson and blue wanted that. No one. Felt like Bill doubling down on some disciplinarian point, when everyone was tired of it. His reactions to these situations. His inability and unwillingness to compromise to salvage it, makes me feel like he is heavily considering retirement after this season.
It was disrespectful to anybody who understands modern basketball. I understand he wants to teach lessons to AJ or Rylan but come on man…
-
RE: The rest of the season
I just want to see some effort and basketball rotations that make sense.
No 3 centers lineup with Dajuan and Zeke. Just functional normal basketball rotations.

Don’t insult Darnell Jackson like that. He was actually drafted and spent 3 years in the NBA. I’d take him in a heart beat right now.
Fair point lol. Maybe Jamari Traylor and it’s nothing personal against him

It’s an embarrassment to our history and the guys who have worn it and competed with pride. This group is a bunch of quitters and should be remembered as such.
And Self isn’t off the hook either. This is what happens when you play favorites…

RE: Ute came to the right place
@kjayhawks said in Ute came to the right place:
@TYOHawk spot on my friend, Remy was a renta player that wasn’t quite good enough to make the NBA for 1 year not sure how in the hell that could be labeled as Juan’s replacement with Juan being a Sophomore at the time and as I put above JCL was never a point guard by any stretch of imagination.
Coach allowed his loyalty to burn him with those two. It is what it is. I’m not a big Dajuan or KJ guy. But one of the truly sad parts of this is I genuinely believe him and KJ give all they have…but they don’t have the talent to be built around. It’s frustrating.
But next year is a fresh slate…hopefully it reignites the fire in Coach.

Who did he recruit to take the ball out of Dajuan’s hands and not play alongside him?
I’ll be waiting cause it never happened.
I already laid it out for you and have pretty explicitly said multiple times that obviously that vision didn’t work out as anticipated. You choosing to not accept that was the vision at the time doesn’t change that was the vision at the time.
So tell me, after the 2020-21 season with Marcus Garrett as the starting PG, how many people were projecting Dejuan Harris to win the starting PG job long term with a 2021 class that included Remy Martin, Bobby Pettiford, JCL, and Joe Yesufu? Did Self bring all those players in that class because he thought Dejuan Harris was going end up being a 4 year starter? You don’t bring that many potential short and long term answers in because you think the answer is ready on the roster.
I’m done responding to you on this, I’ve answered your question multiple times, you choose whether you want to accept that answer or keep using hindsight, but I’m done addressing it.
You can’t address it because you’re wrong like me and Kubballin have told you. Since 22 Self has never tried to recruit over Dajuan. He has recruited guys to play alongside him. Morris, JCL, Remy, Elmarko have all played the two while DaJuan has ran point. Even now when Diggy and Shak are in with Dajuan he is running point.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Your objection is objectively false as I’ve proven
D2 started every game NEXT to Remy. Everyone thinks remy started for d2 but that never happened until remy got nicked up
Bill was always starting d2 because he said he’s the John Stockton of pure pg’s. He NEVER recruited guys over him just guys to play next to him or spot him minutes
Identical with Kj as proven by @BShark and @FarmerJayhawk how we were out on stud 4 guys because they knew coach loves Kj
If you remember the Michigan State game the year we won the title. The lineup was Dajuan/Remy/Ochai/CB/Big Dave. Jalen came off the bench. Now that could’ve been because of his dui or incident but Jalen didn’t start if I recall until Remy got hurt.
He has never tried to take the ball out of Dajuan’s hands. It is a blatant lie to say he did. He recruited guys to compliment him but never tried to upgrade

Here’s the thing…he never tried to recruit over KJ and Dajuan. That’s what puzzling to me and a result of him being stubborn.
This is an objectively false statement. At PG, Self has brought in Bobby Pettiford, Jalen Coleman-Lands, Remy Martin, and Elmarko Jackson.
At forward, Zach Clemence was in the same class as KJ. Others expected to take minutes from KJ were Ernest Udeh, Zuby Ejiofor.
Obviously, none of those options worked out except for Remy for the last few games, but to say Self never attempted to upgrade those positions is just flat out wrong.
This is untrue imo. Pettiford wasn’t ever a threat to take minutes from him. JCL is more of a two guard than anything. Remy…no need to go into that situation but we had an actual nba player coming off the bench for a minute due to Self not benching Harris. Elmarko played the two as well as Arterio Morris even though they were evaluated as point guards. They played as secondary ball handlers cause God forbid anyone actually gets to be the primary handler when Dajuan is on the team.
Clemence came in the same class. Zuby and Udeh are 5’s which theoretically KJ is but he complained about playing the 5. So we moved him to the 4 and have yet to try to upgrade. We passed on getting Harrison Ingram who ended up being a NBA player due to KJ.

RE: Ute came to the right place
It’s more than play for the name on front of the jersey imo. They’re just not that good. All of these guys sans Hunter aren’t talented enough for the roles they’re placed in. Dajuan is fine as a starter if you have 3 other NBA players. KJ is fine if you have 2-3 floor spacers with him. But together with Dajuan it doesn’t work.
They’re just not that good. It’s maybe 1 nba player on this team.
-
RE: Ute came to the right place
There’s no solution. They’re just not that talented and outwardly look like they’ve quit on their coach and vice versa.
We just have to wait it out cause Self has a fetish for the core 3. If things look this bad next year with Darryn and Flory then conversations will be had.

Easy on Coit he’s pg1 next year when he outplays Elmarko in practice!
You are 100% spot on though
Watching auburn vs Bama is like watching a completely different sport.
Guys that play with freedom unafraid of making mistakes because in a 40 minute game they will inevitably make plenty of them. Shooting with confidence and not afraid to miss and sit…
Thing of beauty
Coit shouldn’t even be on the team next year if Coach is serious. But now we run a program based around feel good stories so who knows.

@TYOHawk I have never been this frustrated with any KU BB coach in my life. That being said I think we give Bill next season as long as Dp still comes and Flory stays. He has done enough to have a few bad seasons. If Dp/Fkory jump ship it’s over and we need to move on from him.
We are in the pace and space era and we really run lineups with 3 non shooting bigs and a non shooter at PG.
It’s the type of thing you would laugh at happening in another program but it’s become normal here. It almost feels like a middle finger to the fan base at times with some of the lineup decisions.
I saw a Dajuan/Shak/Diggy/KJ/Flory lineup tonight man. Who is supposed to score or create shots in this lineup?
-
RE: Ute came to the right place
He’s washed up and dying on his sword. If it wasn’t for me wanting to see Darryn Peterson and Oats having a large buyout…I’d recommend turning the program over.

Kadarius Toney vs Lions level of bad.

RE: Feeling the Fieldhouse magic?
@BeddieKU23 said in Feeling the Fieldhouse magic?:
Here we go again with the fatigue excuses. He has Shak and barely played him yesterday for whatever reason.
Coach has allowed his affinity to override his common sense when it comes to those two. No matter what side you’re on…there is no world where Dajuan should play 46 minutes in a game when we have Shak healthy.
-
RE: Feeling the Fieldhouse magic?
@Jhawk69 said in Feeling the Fieldhouse magic?:
Oh boy.
Really frustrating to play an otherwise great game and choke like that.
The only reasonable takeaway is: We have to have more poise at the end of games.
DaJuan this, KJ that, Hunter whatever is just not relevant today.
Poise would be a valid reason next year when we’re featuring DP, Flory and a new group. This is a group who’s led by two guys who’ve been here for a minute.

@approxinfinity - we have our answer already per postgame
Self: If people think this is the frickin end of the season, it’s not at all. We played right with maybe the best team in America tonight without one of our starters.
Flory was the best player on the court and has been outstanding since he got starter minutes. But since he isn’t 25 or in the circle of trust he has to go to the bench lmao.
This my worry KJ comes back and Flory goes back to playing 11 minutes a game while KJ a plays 30. Id be shocked if it doesn’t happen with how mentality disabled Self seems to be the last few years.
Self has allowed his affinity for certain guys to affect him way too much recently. We all know he’s had favorites in the past but he could be somewhat subjective…now if you aren’t in the circle of trust…Good luck
