The schedule gets pretty rough after the rest of the way though. I’m thinking the good vibes will fade off a bit after dealing with some probable losses.

AZ & WVU representing the Big12 well by winning their regionals 3-0. The other six Big12 teams are out.

RE: Quest for the Postseasonposted in KU Baseball / Other NCAA Baseball
Going to be fun to watch! 8 teams from the big 12 made it, 3 were in the ‘last four in’ group.
Reminder that the regionals are double elimination. Just win baby. But a loss isnt the end. Rock chalk.

OSU tomorrow at 5:00pm. They are a hot team.

RE: Quest for the Postseasonposted in KU Baseball / Other NCAA Baseball
d1baseball put out a new playoff projection on May 18th that shows (8) Big 12 teams in the playoffs! The 8th team is OSU as speculated above. It shows KU as a #2 seed and TCU as the only team hosting a regional likely due to their RPI. I think if KU wins the Big 12 tournament they have a shot at being one of the top 16 seeds and hosting a playoff regional, how cool would that be? Link for the playoff projection:

RE: Quest for the Postseasonposted in KU Baseball / Other NCAA Baseball
After yesterday’s win and how the rest of the games played out, I think KU is a lock for the tournament. ASU also lost yesterday which actually gives KU control of their own destiny. Cincinnati has made a case to be one of the last few teams in the post season, actually saw them included in a tournament bracket projection that had 7 teams from the Big12 in it. That would be a lot. Purple kitties should be nervous. Also, OSU has quietly been creeping up the standings, nobody has been talking about them and they are normally one of the top teams in the conference, could they possibly sneak in if several bubble teams end on a low note? WVU, KU, TCU, ASU, and AZ are probably in the post season. Cincy, KSU, and maaaybe OSU have a chance to get in as well. OSU resume looks pretty weak to me, I doubt they have much of a chance.
Its an exciting time of the year - would love to see KU bring home a conference championship in a very unlikely sport!

Seems like some sites are showing differently. I use the d1 baseball site and it says three. Whatever it is, hopefully they win the final series!
-
RE: Quest for the Postseasonposted in KU Baseball / Other NCAA Baseball
@Texas-Hawk-10 I’m seeing KU as 3 games back in the standings. Maybe this site isn’t updated but if that is true, a sweep would put them tied with WVU for champions as long as ASU doesn’t win out (they have 4 games left).

RE: Quest for the Postseasonposted in KU Baseball / Other NCAA Baseball
Really big series to end the season, three games at WVU. I would like to think they are in the post season but don’t leave it up to the committee. If they win the series I think they for sure make it. If they get swept and end up 6th in the big 12 I would be nervous. I think Big 12 is usually a 4-5 bid league. I think this year a case could be made for 6 but the SEC always gets a ton of teams in. How do you guys see it?
-
RE: Quest for the Postseasonposted in KU Baseball / Other NCAA Baseball
Seems like the best thing for this team is to NOT be ranked again for now. Every time they end up losing a series 3-0 to an unranked team. TCU is pretty decent but Cincy not as good, surprising they lost all three at home. Need to bounce back and close out strong.

Desmond Claude a junior from USC has entered and I guess were in on him pretty hard. A 6’6 guard Avg 15.6 ppg – - 4.2 assists per -& 3.5 rpg .–Word is out really good player.
Has a visit scheduled Thursday with Florida ,Schools involved are Florida- -North Carolina- --Virginia— & KU
Even though Claude has the visit Scheduled according to sources and Joe Tipton from On Three-- -Kansas remains very much in the mix.— - Yep I’d take him in a New York Minute-- fingers crossed
Nice. But how are kids still entering the portal? I thought it closed.

Disgusting post and you should be ashamed for pushing this hogwash narrative. Its nowhere near the same and insulting to families or people impacted by WW2 and its events.

RE: Quest for the Postseasonposted in KU Baseball / Other NCAA Baseball
Wow, that Friday night game against KSU was awesome. KU had no answers for 7 innings and once the starting pitcher exited they came alive with a huge blast to take the lead. It was tough to watch those first seven innings but if you hung on and didn’t turn off the tv you were in for a treat to see what happened. Getting that sweep of KSU was huge. Their schedule looks fairly easy the rest of the way until the last three games on the road at WV. Just focus on taking care of business the rest of the way. WV looks dangerous though.

Any updates on Darrion Williams? Is there a chance?

RE: Quest for the Postseasonposted in KU Baseball / Other NCAA Baseball
Yeah, the TCU series suddenly became more relevant. TCU is just one game back from KU in the league standings. They have been a solid team lately as well, did some damage in the postseason last few years if I recall. Will be a good test.

Watched most of it last night, seemed like a blowout and they let them make it close in the 7th. Lineup is impressive though. Next up is a series at UCF starting Friday.

For anyone that hasnt followed KU Baseball much this year, KU had a game where they went back to back to back to back to back homeruns. 5 in a row! Never seen that before at any level. Super impressive. There’s a video of it out there but I still havent figured out how to post them.

First thread! Thank you @approxinfinity for creating this new page.
I really think KU has a shot at making the post season this year. Would be fun to watch them in the tournament and see what they can do! Big 12 normally gets 6-7 teams, think KU has a chance to dance.

RE: Off-season Conditioningposted in KU Basketball / Other NCAAM
College athletes are given summer workout programs to do. Usually there is a ‘test’ upon return of break. (conditioning, core lifts, body fat, etc.). If athletes don’t pass the tests there is usually some sort of consequences. KU is an elite program, if players are not self motivated enough to do their part to help the team they are not the kind of players we should have in this program.

@dylans it’s been weird for sure @RockkChalkk it ain’t his fault they keep showing him. He’s there supporting his country and several friends. Kinda like the Taylor Swift hate at chiefs games, she there supporting her BF literally nothing wrong with it.
I see your point. To me, I think he crosses the line by joining the studio for segments, when he is in the pool with Phelps for a segment, when he plants himself next to parents of kids about to compete in their big event, etc. The camera is obviously going to show the parents after their kid does their event and there he is again. It is just different than say, Tom Cruise who was there and shown a few times by the cameras but I didn’t get the sense that he was trying to steal the spotlight.

He has been my least favorite part. This is supposed to be about the athletes, not about some old washed up rapper stealing the spotlight from them. Way too much of him on the screen. The cameras should be focused on the athletes, their families, and their stories.

KU Baseballposted in General Discussion
I enjoyed the College World Series the past few years and was pulling hard for KU who came close to making it. They beat some teams in the B12 tourny that did a lot of damage in the world series. I think strength of schedule hurt them. Am hoping others were starting to grow interest in KU Baseball and we might see a new section on this board for any news/updates on the team during the offseason. There is usually a ton of movement in the transfer portal. Anyone else like this idea?

He’s here on a student visa where US law prevents him from making $ from NIL unless he was to travel abroad etc. I don’t recall that he was even a first round pick last year but I could be wrong. He may go in the lottery this year so if both are true, I’d say he improved his stock a lot by coming back.
I should have explained the point I was trying to make. As it stands with International Players here on student visa’s, they cannot earn NIL the same way as others. While Furphy was a great last-minute addition to the team, I think its safe to assume if he could earn NIL like everyone else a 2nd year at KU would be likely. The risk KU and others take on International Players and trying to retain them year over year
Eh - I doubt this is the difference maker. Maybe its the excuse we are given but it may just be he wants to go. It hasnt been that long since the OG recruiting days, right? All those alleged backchannels cant be completely closed yet. There has to be a workaround where he could (legally of course) be compensated. I hear the Cayman Islands have some good banks…

As of now we have:
Returning:
Adams, Clemence, Dickinson, Furphy, Harris, Jackson, McDowell,
Signings:
Bidunga, Passmore, Philon
Transfers:
Kugel, Mayo
KU as is has a full roster. This will obviously change as players explore pro options and the enter the portal. It’s now a 1:1 as far as players leaving and players KU can bring in.
Thats 12. Full roster is normally 13. I’m guessing the one less is due to the scholarship penalty for one more year that I mentioned, is that correct?
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Threadposted in KU Basketball Recruiting
Just to check my math, is this correct?
Out: Braun, McCullar, Timberlake In: Flory, Philon, Passmore, Mayo, Kugel
The difference is the two scholarships we were ‘penalized’ and not able to use. Is that correct? I thought we still had another year with one scholarship short. Definitely fuzzy on all this history so don’t quote me on that one, ha.

@jayballer67 to be fair I do think Clark is dealing with being under a microscope like no women’s college basketball player before ever has while also dealing with a double standard. Kevin McCullar and Iowa state fans whine to officials way more than her.
I’ve never seen Kevin act like that towards officials. No way man. She looked like a spoiled rotten crybaby child in those clips. I was embarrassed for her. Genuinely makes me dislike her. That combined with the court storming flop. I am surprised more people haven’t turned on her by now. If she wasn’t bringing in so much money to the sport she would be blasted by the media. Can’t wait for the day we stop hearing about how many half court shots she chucked up and made. Enough.

How many charges will the Hawks get called for? I’m setting the over/under at 5.
How many senseless turnovers will they have trying to play backyard ball? I’m setting the over/under at 8.
How many fouls on three point shots will the Hawks have? I’m setting the over/under at 3.
Place your bets.

@TYOHawk said in Who would you keep for next year?:
Keep: Furphy, Hunter

I agree with this. I think I would add McDowell to the ‘on the fence’ section though. He seems to show some flashes and wouldn’t mind keeping him around as a bench piece.
