So we play Tennessee next? Confusing. Oh, and AI sucks. I’ve seen like three different, opposing summaries of who is in the championship game. Weird.

I tell ya, that Duke game last year in Vegas was jam packed!

But yesterday’s crowd was minimal for sure. I think people have the time, money and energy to see their teams play one big game in Vegas, but asking them to shell out three or four days and big bucks may be too much to ask.

That being said, i’ve done that for Maui a few times. Aloha!

btw, we dropped out of the Top 25 today. sigh.

I’m a little bummed i couldn’t get to Vegas this year to watch the Hawks. The tickets ain’t cheap though!

We went last year to the Duke game. That was a ton of fun.

As for the games, i don’t know what to expect either. If we play hard like we did last week, we have a chance in all.

It seems like football is a long term fix, unlike basketball.

So, it’s hard to decide how frustrated to be. The worst part is that we’ve been on that fine line to make a bowl game in recent years. It’s a simple goal, but seems unachievable.

So i saw some internet chatter today about YTTV already getting access to ESPN Unlimited.

Tried to set it up, but didn’t work.

So, we wait.

Just for fun, i wanted to see how KU’s defense ranked nationally.

We’re right about close to the middle in most categories?

Team 3 pt shooting: 33% – What did Self say we’d need to shoot to be successful? 37% or something?

Individual 3pt shooting

Ngala – 66.7%

DP – 50%

Tiller – 50%

Tre – 35.7%

Jamari – 33%

Kohl – 29%

Dawson – 26%

Elmarko – 16.7%

Council – a whopping 7.7%

Well, we lost.

But, I have to say that I haven’t seen that kind of energy or effort all year. That part was impressive. They now have a standard to live up to every game. We can win games playing like that.

We can’t, however, win games by shooting 4-21 from deep. That’s pathetic in every way.

I think we may win or lose on the shoulders of Kohl or Jayden’s shooting. Both need to get comfortable and start making some shots. Council cannot be trusted to shoot anything other than a layup.

Nor can we win with only 5 bench points. Also pathetic.

But, all in all a positive game last night.

Based on his recent usage it would seem Mbiya is an emergency use only. I expect foul trouble and his size to matchup as potentially using him for his 5 fouls. It is what it is there.

They are young just like we are. They have 5 stars as young’s though and a few returning 5 star guys that are now much improved.

Size wise they don’t have anyone under 6’4.

Exactly on Mbiya. Seems we’re all expecting Flory to be in foul trouble pretty quickly. Guessing the break glass in case of emergency for Mbiya will be in the first half. I guess we could see come Calderon as well.

Also, we don’t really play anybody under 6’4 either, except for the unplayable Elmarko. I think we match up reasonably well with size. Except of course if Duke plays 2 big bigs!

I haven’t seen Duke play this year, so I don’t have that built in worry.

They are young, right? If so that could be to our benefit. And don’t they have one or two guys we were after? Sarr?

Hoping we’re at least competitive without DP on national TV!

I do think we’ll see some Mbiya tonight.

I was getting fired up to check the boxscore to blame penalties for the loss…but then i saw the Broncos penalties and that excuse fell out the window!

Chiefs: 10 penalties for 69 yards

Broncos: 10 penalties for 147 yards

Yea brutal sked. Unfortunate injuries and “personal matters”. And not as sharp as past years for sure, But this is by no means a bad football team.

With virtually no threat to succeed in the running game, they can be predictable and pressured.

Denver is good though.

Not something i’d normally comment on, but i thought Nick Bahe was very informative today as the color guy on TV.

He really did a great job of explaining the ins and outs of how the KU guys needed to play defense against Princeton. He was in the weeds about guarding the 3 pt line and backdoor cuts and I loved it! nicely done.

He also wasn’t shy about saying our guards need to step up and make some outside shots for us to be successful.

Best game i recall from him on the mic.

Yes! And i just read that ESPN Unlimited will be included! That’s a big win. We can cancel standalone subscriptions to ESPN+! But of course we’ve yet to see the bill…ha.

I think we’re all just showing concern with his odd ball level of hurt, and if it’s serious enough to keep him out awhile. Cramps aren’t normal to keep you out games. Hamstring tightness is somewhat normal, but add em up and there’s concern.

Kind of an uneventful game, huh. But we like wins!

Kohl was the star of the show by far. As Self says — Bouncy. He looked confident, too. He was very vocal in on court huddles. Like that in a young player.

The game was hella sloppy though. Expected I guess without our leader DP.

It’s official, Elmarko is a hot mess. I guess the question is can he be salvaged at some point this year, next year, or?

Every game so far I wonder where Trey White was hiding, but then the box score shows him with semi decent-ish stats.

Good to see a smile, or sigh of relief, on Jayden’s face after a made bucket. Keep em coming!

I saw the football coaching staff wearing gold and black colors as well last week.

I took a look at the last few seasons for some top teams on the road.

Here’s a quick scan of some top teams for the all with + win/loss records on the road in last two seasons.

Uconn/Duke/UNC/Kentucky/Bama/Tennessee/Mich St/Purdue/Houston/Iowa St/Arizona/Texas Tech.

Might be more but that’s enough to paint a good picture of what’s going on.

KU used to be a mighty road team…Self would always emphasize that.

Just signed up for the free 5-day trial at DirecTV to watch the KU game on ESPN. So far so good. I doubt i’ll keep it, but $49.99 and it includes ESPN Unlimited.

Yea, ESPN+ in theory doesn’t have the live ESPN networks, just content they decide to put on +.

You’d have to step up ESPN Unlimited to access those channels.

It’s hard to keep track, but ESPN has recently launched a tiered streaming only service.

It’s the truth to a degree to be honest. We don’t have a secondary or third scorer. That’s an issue even if DP is a phenom.

Not trying to be a smart ass @TYOHawk , but just reliving a lasting memory as a KU student.

A smart professor once used the word “tertiary” on me. My face went blank. I had to go look it up afterward. that set me on the right track after a dicey start to my education at KU (perhaps aided by too many $1 Hawk glass refills). Haven’t looked back since!

A few things we may have learned (but yes, it’s early):

– They generally played well in the first half. I thought it was looking like an easy win.

– Not to pick on just Elmarko, but he was a freaking revolving door on defense tonight. Not good at all. Wow.

– Tre White shouldn’t really handle the ball in traffic much.

– VERY happy to see Tiller knock down some 3s. Those looked solid.

– VERY happy Kohl hit the actual net tonight (after his first airball)! Hoping he gains some confidence after making a few.

– Agreed with another poster. When DP is not on the floor, we seem lost in the headlights. Did we even score in the first half after he went out? I’m not sure we did score while he was on the bench. We just seemed to pass the ball around without much purpose.

– There were times in the second half when the team seemed to have no clue they were playing a basketball game. More than a few times they just casually tossed the ball to the TarHeels! that was weird.

Oh, well. I’m happy i at least figured out a way to watch the game. Tough roadie.

Well surprise, surprise!

i was about to sign up for a free trial for Sling to watch the UNC game, but at the last minute i logged onto the ESPN app to triple check it wasn’t on ESPN+.

To my utter shock, it WAS on the ESPN app. ESPN3 to be exact. In Spanish!! So, i somehow go to watch the game, although i could only understand when the announcers said BeeDuuunga!

Sigh. my first missed KU game in quite some time.

Yea, that pretty much sums it up. Not an Alpha. Not involved. Not sure how helpful that is. I personally think all that hair is holding him back!

Per Jamari…can somebody tell me what his skills are? It’s been a few years and i’m still not sure what he does as a basketball player.

That’s no disrespect, but ya know how you can see a guy play, and know what he does well? I still don’t know with him.
