Geez, what happened to the posse lookin’ to tar and feather that varmint who can’t 'cruit nor coach no more?

RE: The portal.
@wissox You need to enroll by mid-July if you want to recreate history. The parallel universes require a certain level of actual parallelness, not just dates. So, where will you be living in Lawrence next semester?

@drgnslayr said in The portal.:
there are issues happening with foreign student visas
Another article, from The Athletic (I should get a commission, I push it so much), talking about how many international college athletes and recruits are being affected by the travel ban, not only the visa restrictions.

I absolutely love your being absolutely against absolutism. But I am absolutely opposed to you dying on this or any other hill involving semantics!

RE: 2025 Baseball Season
Hunter Renfroe was such a huge letdown they waived him and ate a huge contract. Should the GM be able to predict a rapid descent like that?

RE: I'm Back
@BShark You are the perfect example of the catalyst that allows the health care industrial complex to continue to fool itself and politicians that we have the best care in the world, no changes needed, Americans are so lucky, etc.
Because you are your family’s everyday health care advocate-- really, “hero” is the better word. Every day, thousands of parents, children, siblings, grandparents, cousins, aunt and uncles, and family friends have to step in and save their family members from convoluted rules, poorly trained staff, and overburdened or uncaring administrators.
We had to do the same for my mother. I was able to do it because I was retired so I had time, and had training in advocacy as a lawyer, but I fear for all the people who get screwed with little recourse. The stories of people losing their homes from erroneous insurance denials and huge med bills are insane.
Glad to hear your brother is doing better. May the love and compassion you bring to all the people in your life you have comforted and cared for come back to you a hundredfold!

RE: The portal.
@jayhawks2010 People are displacing the panic they should be having about world events onto sports. Not just here–fanbases everywere seem more irrational than normal!
-
RE: The portal.
Not political…just a question on procedures. Visas for international college students are held up currently as the State Dept reviews social media (hasn’t said for what). Could that be putting a hold on announcing any recruiting efforts?
-
RE: Nets fans reflect on Vaughn as head coach
@approxinfinity IIRC, the Nets dumped salary and tanked right after JV was made permanent coach. Nets fans are nuts.
-
RE: Quest for the Postseason
If KU beats Creighton on Friday, they play the winner of North Dakota St. vs Arkansas (# 3 overall seed).
If KU wins the regional they play the winner of the Knoxville regional: Cincinnati, Wake Forest, Tennessee (#14 seed), or Miami.

I think they are setting up a visit to see @wissox.

RE: The portal.
@wissox @ImmunoHawk Same here about not being able to sit outside!
Of course, a TEEENSY bit different… 94 here in Hilton Head, SC, this week.

RE: Quest for the Postseason
@SlimShaddy54 WVU up 2 in wins + 4 less losses = 6 total difference = 3 games ahead.
-
RE: Jacque Vaughn... Thoughts?
@Crimsonorblue22 Larry might have had two if Archie Marshall hadn’t gotten injured in 1986. Besides Haase, Roy also might have won if Capt Kirk hadn’t hurt his knee. Bill, perhaps three if Embiid hadn’t …
You can go on and on with what if’s! It’s what makes sports fun–no season is ever over in our memories!

RE: Jacque Vaughn... Thoughts?
@Jhawk69 By cracky, you’ve got a point there! I thought something was wrong and just kept looking at spelling and grammar. Didn’t notice my incorrect identification of the sea in which the Squid was swimming!
-
RE: Jacque Vaughn... Thoughts?
I still can’t lay the 2003 loss to the Evil Orange at Roy’s feet. Unfortunately KU shot under 50% on FTs. Unlike Cal who ignored UK’s problems all season in 2007-08, Roy cared about those but sometimes the balls don’t go in.

RE: The portal.
@RockkChalkk The Holocaust didn’t start with a bunch of exterminations that suddenly surprised everybody. Hitler ran for Chancellor on a campaign to literally destroy the German democracy, and he did it. It took 58 days. Using executive orders and passing laws restricting the rights of Jews in Germany are precisely how Hitler began his agenda. Once you declare people aren’t as entitled to legal protections as others, you open the door to larger scale assaults on civil liberties on a large scale which Trump has expressly stated is his goal.
What is disgusing is how few people recognize the historical parallels…and how you attack someone who recognizes them. Martin Niemöller had something to say about that willful blindness. Please read some history.

RE: So I was walking around Walmart yesterday…
@approxinfinity Might be from the era before you were even a glimmer in your parents’ eyes, but… Flip flops used to be known as thongs (especially the ones from India where you’d soak the leather soles and let them dry conforming to your feet, circa early '70s IIRC), probably until the other clothing item and certain swimsuits acquired that name.

RE: The portal.
Apparently I was misinformed. International students whose visas were revoked have not had their visas restored by the administration’s reversal. It has to do with the federal database of international students’ status, where the feds had terminated their F-1 student status en masse. Deleting their status made them eligible for deportation. It is the status that has been restored. DHS says no visas have been restored.
I admit I have no idea what I’m talking about, but it sounds like something that may only delay students from joining the ranks of deportees as a result of the database change–until ICE just gets around to rounding up all visa holders from particular countries. Anyone who understands the student database thing is free to correct me!

RE: Quest for the Postseason
Any chance we might actually get ranked now?
-
RE: The portal.
I thought the Gestapo admirers reversed the visa cancellations of international students, and were now concentrating on deporting US-citizen children of adults getting shanghaied???
Does anyone know what the hell is really going on?

RE: The portal.
No more walk-ons? Did our coaches age out of having more kids?

RE: The portal.
It used to be, as Bobby Knight said, that the best thing about a freshman is knowing he will become a sophomore. Now fans announce definitive judgments about the limitations of sophomores-to-be as if no player could possibly improve from their first year.

Eating at a great smokehouse is my solution!

RE: Gas BBQ grill problem. Got a fix?
@rockchalkjayhawk I got so frustrated with years of propane problems of all types that I installed the natural gas conversion kit in a new grill when we last moved and connected it to our house supply… Haven’t had any problems since and never having to go empty is a dream.
Perhaps an option for you?

RE: The portal.
@wissox I haven’t heard whether you entered the portal this time after volunteering last year? Still waiting for that HCBS p/c, right? or are you holding out for a bag?

RE: Dog days of Sprummer.
Re: Uzzu.tv–Lots of reviews complain about fake refund promises, and recommend using a single-use credit card. They claim to be in “the States” and you can visit at 90 N Gould St, Sheridan WY (no zip given). Google maps shows that address to be associated with “Swiftify” of 30 N Gould Street, which according to the Sheridan newspaper is the location of a well-known “registered agent” of hundreds, maybe thousands, of fly-by-night companies. I.e., ain’t no company there, just an “I know nothing” bozo who files papers. Being monitored by the Wyoming A.G. office.
The Uzzu app was removed from Firestick and elsewhere, and they offer instructions for sideloading onto Firestick, Apple products, phones, smart tvs, Roku, etc., using a login code they give you.
No phone number, no domain name revealed in their email, no physical contact info. Yep, sounds legit to me.

RE: What tandem will be better than Flory / Peterson
@nuleafjhawk Not a fair comparison. If they are in the top combo position, literally every other team, or roughly 99.7% of men’s teams, have a chance to do better. Betting the field that is that large is pretty safe.

RE: All of a Sudden
@bskeet I just got done reading it, right before clicking over here to see what’s going on. Very gratifying to finally see other people reading The Atlantic. Also known as Signal Live.

RE: The portal.
Salary caps in pro leagues only are allowed because they have been negotiated in collective bargaining. Any effort to control the money athletes can get by having an NCAA impose a salary cap will run into the same problems as when they imposed a cap of zero. The system will only start working when schools accept that athletes are labor, and treat them accordingly.

RE: The portal.
Has anyone answered the Q about whether Flory, as an international recruit, is able to get NIL? Grady wasn’t, but he didn’t go to HS in the US. Flory did, I think, so is that the difference? I thought it was a student visa restriction…don’t want to jeopardize a visa right now!

See y'all for football!
Postseason blaming going on as usual…not for me. I prefer to remember the good and the fun, and to be grateful for our extraordinary record that causes so many people to get so angry during disappointments. It is a game, and hopefully not the center of anyone’s existence. Good luck to everyone and lets see if the Royals surprise again!

RE: Gotta tell ya -- Not Good
I had a friend whose pacemaker failed as he was walking out of a theater with his wife. He dropped like a sack of potatoes and she saved his life by doing CPR until the ambulance came. He always told the story to include a little joke: when he came to, he said, he was surprised to find out she still wanted him around.
Sounds like your wife worked hard to keep you around. Treat her well!

RE: KU Baseball 8-0!
@SlimShaddy54 Actually 3 previous schools did it: South Carolina (2006), Eastern Illinois (1998) and Centenary LA (1992).

RE: Chiefs offseason
@dylans Donovan Smith, who was the subject of lots of annoyed questions about why the Chiefs didn’t sign him instead of DJH, was rehabbing an injury last season. He is now very healthy and is mentioned as a possible LT for KC. I’ve read Kingsley has inside track on LG job.

RE: Ute came to the right place
Not sure why it is BS’s fault that no one can get a rebound or a layup, but sure, yeah, blame the coach. Roy Williams missed all those shots against Syracuse, too. Damn, this is easy.

RE: Ute came to the right place
My prediction is that we won’t see the first 4 mins of the game on ESPN.

RE: 2024 NFL Season
@kjayhawks Title in '22 seems pretty recent, especially considering the '20 team that many considered likely to win before covid cancelled it all. But sure, two years not as good means those were just flukes.
