I DVRd the Jamfest just for fun. For those unfamiliar, it’s not a game, but shooting and dunk contests. So, it’s like the NFL combine really. But…
— Precious-Achiuwa is a specimen. His body would play as a freshman. Vicious dunker.
— Tre Mann has a smooooth shot and range. Florida will be happy next year.
— Cole Anthony didn’t look special in this event. Guessing he’s more of a floor general, scorer.
— A West Virginia commit didn’t seem to understand the rules of the dunk contest…made one then kept on dunking. Lame dunks, too.
— Another Florida recruit, SF Scottie Lewis, is a high flying gazelle.
— A 6-foot-1 girl had a sweet dunk.
— No. 1 recruit James Wiseman didn’t do much.
@HighEliteMajor yup, fitting is key. I had my irons fitted. I realized after the first round with them, and they were digging into my forearms (too long), I needed professional help! Driver and 3 wood are off the rack.
Hmm, maybe it is time for a club upgrade. My driver is older, Taylormade R9. Same with 3 wood — older R7. But I rip that sucker. Also have an Adams Insight 3 wood. Love it. Big Bertha irons. Rounder. I like how forgiving they are. Cleveland wedges — really tight spin early on. Odyssey white hot Rossie putter.

Ha. That’s exactly why I created my own thread! I understand not everybody has the same disposition as I do when we are getting run out of the gym — as we were, which looked very familiar to other losses. I vented as such and you called me out.
It’s fine if you don’t care for what I have to say. I generally try to be even-keeled and not piss people off, so I moved onto my own thread as suggested to not rock the boat on game day.
Upon further reflection… — we were simply outmanned and out-matured last night. Their experience and athleticism was too much for our youth.
— it is kind of funny how the NCAA sets matchups. I don’t notice how other programs do or don’t get bad matchups, but to offer up two programs that attack our weakness (3pt D) is curious. I guess everybody shoots a ton of 3s now though, huh. Hard to avoid.
— I didn’t get to watch the second half, but it seems we played better? At least the score said so.
— This was an odd year for the team. Let’s hope it was an anomaly. Injuries, defections, rules infractions. All too much to overcome.
— As for the players, my guess is that we will lose a few more guys…Dedric, KJ, Silvio, Chuck it up Charlie will all be gone. Grimes I don’t have a feel for. KJ I’m less certain about.
— As for incoming players…we need some. the question is, are we a tainted program right now? If the freshmen steer clear, then Self will have to rely on transfers again, and maybe even a Juco?
— we will need a new frontline, or most of a front line. Two power forwards, a backup center, a backup PG, and any kind of athlete who can help us defend under Self’s defensive philosophy, which seems outdated to me.
— We will also lose an assistant or two, I predict. Townsend likely. Snacks should stay. He’s comedic relief.
— Self seems committed to see the NCAA shit through to the end. Hope he stays. I do think he needs to look inward and evaluate his approach on a number of things…offense, defense, recruiting.
— He says no easy buckets on defense, which means guarding the post in his eyes. I don’t think that works anymore. I’d like to see us stop hedging our guards down low. Stay with your guy on the outside, let the post survive on its own.
— it has not been a fun year to be a fan. This NCAA crap was getting old even before this season, and got worse.
— that being said, it’s always fun to watch the freshmen grow up. I saw growth with Big Dave. A bit up and down for Ochai. Bright future. Grimes I’m honestly not sure about. Does he need the ball in his hands more to be successful? He needs to work on his shot, and many other things. Dotson is fantastic. Very impressed with his first year. Imagine in a year or two when he gets confident in his shot.

— glad we got three postseason games under our belt. That will help the freshmen in the big dance.
— Iowa State is a tough matchup for us if they are motivated. Our two bigs can’t keep up with their small ball lineup.
— how many tournament teams play small lineups? Hope we don’t see em.
— Grimes seems more involved and smoother, despite missing shots.
— Garrett had 15 rebounds. 15!
— Ochai has been invisible for awhile.
— I wish Dotson was a few inches taller. Finishing, defending would be easier.
— Dedric is just laughably bad on defense.
— upon further reflection, I don’t like Ochai’s shooting form. What’s with that weird Jordan leg kick? Odd.
— Dedric is a highly talented offensive player.
— I’d like Charlie to leave the program when the season is over.
— We desperately need recruits for next year. Bigs. Backup PG. A dunker.
— The next few years very well could be about the same as this year.
— Garrett. Hmm. Self is so high on him. Love his effort and sticktoitness. Just offers very little on offense. That hurts us as a team. He needs to finish stronger, which is easier than learning to shoot.
— if we are to win an NCAA game, or make it out of the first weekend, we’ll need good matchups and … well, shit, I dunno what we will need! Miracle?
Sadly Lawson never plays D. I guess it’s to be expected – maybe Self told him to lay low on D so he doesn’t foul out. Which is worse? Him not playing D or him in foul trouble and our offense is way worse?

I can’t say how disappointed i am in Chuck It Up Charlie. He can’t even get the team into an offense. Dribble, dribble, desperate dribble. Bad pass. Turnover.
And as for the Fabulous Mr. Grimes… He looked more engaged last night. Happy to see that. The day I see him even attempt to dunk on one of his weak ass drives to the hole…he’ll have turned the corner.

Sadly i don’t think any of us have this team figured out this year to predict wins/losses. Well, i take that back. We CAN predict road games fairly accurately. Freaking mystery. Youth+new teammates=who the eff knows
Teams we sneak by or lose to, other teams have stomped. If the freshmen are on, then we have a good chance. If Dedric decides to play in the first half, then we have a good chance.
Losing to Shaka would piss me off.

@Kcmatt7 that’s an accurate description of Fran, huh. he’s not very entertaining. He does have a good grasp of Xs and Os and whatnot though.
For the Fran haters: I thought he was great today. I rarely take issue with him, but i understand he can sound KU cranky sometimes.
As for the game, i like the way Big Dave is coming along. Still a giant, frenzied goofball, but he’s making progress.
What an oddly sized Baylor team … bunch of 6-3 guys and a 6-7. Not typical for the usual long, lean pogo stick team.
Ahh, bitch-slapped by Oklahoma. How nice. For those of you not paying close attention, this is an Oklahoma team that lost at home to Baylor by 30. At the very least this team should be able to put up a fight on the road. I laughed the first play of the game when Dedric gave up a baseline dunk for lack of give a shit.
— Grimes should feel lucky if he hits the rim from deep. There’s simply no telling where his shot will go.
— Ochai has hit the wall.
— We would have a chance most games if Dedric could start hot.

Meh. Still not impressed. I’d like to be. Not expecting the lofty preseason ranking any more, but some form of effort or energy would be appreciated.
I noticed that Grimes is the largest of all wimps when it comes to going to the basket. Two opportunities for him to at least make it to the rim, and he pulled up in the wimpiest of ways. He needs to grow a pair, IMO.
Agree with @Texas-Hawk-10 about his strength, too.
And how did he stay in the majority of the game and Ochai was benched??
So just starting to watch the game. Saw the score earlier, so I’m at least watching suspense-free.
