    • 100 Reasons Why Landen Made the Charity Tosses

When you hear this you will see why this deserves its own thread…

As reported by the LJW, our beloved big man, Double L, Landen Lucas, shot 100 free throws AFTER…YES AFTER the West Virginia game Monday night!!!

What a kid! I vow to never say another derogatory thing about him Again. We all have our short comings, but my goodness how impressive is it to have him head back out to Naismith court to practice after the emotionally and physically exhausting OT epic?

How did we beat Baylor? Tuesday morning freaking stud Landen Lucas was up at 1:30 in the AM practicing free throws. That’s how we beat Baylor.

    • RE: I miss Jaybate, I miss last year.

I was always astounded that @jaybate-1-0 articles were so much better and entertaining than any of the fodder kusports.com was putting out. He was a renaissance man journalist with greater intellect and writing skill than all the supposed journalists combined (thank the LORD keegan left!). Very often people don’t like the smartest guy in the room because they are often quirky and eccentric and well…a lot smarter than less secure people can handle.

I very much miss the deeper dive and thematic genius of his entertaining and wonderfully verbose masterpieces (and the occasional duds as well). As you may recall, he was alluding to his own health issues, so i find it a bit shameful to see some piling on now that no lengthy rebuttal will be forthcoming. We are Jayhawks, we should be better than that. I got the impression he may have been fighting serious issues as well.

If he unfortunately shed the motal coil, then I hope he is with James and Phog having some humdinger debates on the finer points of what he used to repeatedly call…the greatest game ever invented.

Go Jaybate go! You are missed.

    • The Amazing Bill Self

Saturday was the 100th loss for Coach at KU, and it took 16 seasons to get to 100. Remarkable. Tack on a few more we are likely to get this year, and by season’s end that will equate to just 6.5 losses per year. That my friends, is what they call - Stupid Good.

Despite the feel that this year is going to be a bit of a down year after our recent runs with Frank and Davonte leading the way, the sustained excellence we have enjoyed over the last 16 years is nothing short of amazing. I really hope Kurtis reminds Bill every day, “You know, you only need 127 more wins to tie Phog.”

Doke’s FT% jumped 12%, so on the positive we could say he is trending upward! You could tell they made massive form changes, but then the chicken wing went flying out on the first couple throws. The last few and the 2 he made, he actually kept the elbow in, so I will call that some meaningful progress.

There was a lot of home cooking at key junctures that altered the flow of the game. Bill rarely gets a T and the other coaches were seen laughing at the ridiculousness of multiple calls. It was atad farcical. The best part of the game was Silvio got some good minutes and he was stout on ths glass.

@jaybate-1-0 Can you imagine if Boeheim had half a brain and did some iso posts with young guarding a 6-10 guy? With Clay on the floor we outscored the orange by 9! We struggled to get a couple boards but that was it. Their players were uber long and uber athletic but have zero BBall IQ…lets chuck another contested three and not take it inside against their midgets! I was surprised at how bad they were.

Svi: the time with Hudy has paid off. He got several 50/50s and boards because he was just stronger and could not Be shoved off his spot.

Garrett/Dok: MG did have several lock Down moments on D and a number of good block outs I noticed…things Dok cannot do very consistently. Garret plays smart on D and was more valuable than Malik in that respect.

Malik: with him offering nothing on O he did at least have one nice stick back. He is not showing me much. I was surprised we could win handily w/o him scoring double digits. Needs to drive it.

Vick: love the nickname, it is perfect. He may have more killer instinct than Keith Langford and he is more athletic. He is doing it all. The oop was nasty!!!

Davonte: keep this up and we may have b2b NPOY on our hands. On a night were it could have tuned into one of those 2-23 nights from 3 after our slow start, he just refused to see us lose a game we should never lose even tho we have no bigs. I really thought he was gonna get 40.

@HighEliteMajor What Silvio has done is beyond remarkable. To go from being in HS 3 months ago to saving our bacon so that he will be in the Final 4 is the stuff of movies. Silvio is living the real hoop dreams. Even with the wild pass 10 feet over Svi’s head into the stands. I love everything about the kid. • Flakes versus Assassins

      Out on a limb time…

This year will be different than past early bow outs because we have cold blooded assasins this year and no flakes. 5 guys can step up and hit killer shots in the clutch…

Nadiir, Selden, Greene, even Tyshawn and Elijah. Frankamp and Oubre for sure. We had lots of guys who were good players, but the all had the flakey gene on some level, some more than others.

No such gene exists in Frank, Josh, Devonte, Vick. SVI, maybe a little but he does hit some shots and by now his minutes are dwindling and Bill won’t let him hurt us.

The Assassins, Seal Team 4, Hoops Special Ops are on a mission to get Bill #2. They are battle tested assasins who relish the pressure moments. And unlike the flakes, they don’t choke. They deliver.

So I am out on the limb saying it is going to be a F4 year. From there, anything can happen, but I like our chances with the 4 Assasins.

Did anyone notice it? I would say that Q dialed up his effort and intensity to the highest notch we have seen it last night. He got 3 boards (above ave for him), he dove on the floor, he drove it several times (though I still thought he did not finish strong - dunk the ball! You are 6-5!). He also had some good close outs and worked much harder over picks and to stick with his man. Did a light bulb go on?

Overall, my observation is that he played with much more fire and heightened effort. It was a very positive step on a night where Och came up zeros. Did anyone else see a more aggressive Q as well?

@drgnslayr @jaybate-1.0 After playing for a big time program, pardon me, THE Big time program, can you imagine how hard it must be to face your last year. Then on top you have not gotten Bill to another FF or NC yet. The 13 year streak is starring you in the face. Many are expecting you to preform like T-Rob, Withy, Markief, or Sasha. The legends’ ghosts are in the building, stalking you.

You’ve been treated like royalty, or is that deity?, you have the best of EVERYTHING, plus you are a thoughtful, good hearted dude…and in 5-6 months it will all come down to the rigged tourney. Talk about pressure. He is 21 or 22. Still a child. Big men have big loads to carry. That 17-21 year olds can preform at such a high level is truly remarkable with the crushing pressure we put on them.

Free your mind big fella, think on what is good and true, and noble. Enjoy the final leg of the journey, and wear the mantle of the Jayhawks legacy well. Give it your best, and forget the rest.

@drgnslayr @jaybate-1.0 Save the knee theory is good, or what about the Road theory? Coach sees its a dog fight. We have horrible start that puts us in the hole. Colby and Mitch have never experienced anything remotely like a Big 12 war, so he ices them until they can get first taste of a conference battle in the friendly confines to boost confidence and give them better chance for success. Had we started strong and been up 8-10 pts, bill may have risked playing the wild cards. Bragg and LL knew what to expect and handled the heat.

Observations from my night in the Little Apple

      1. K-State fans are whiney, annoying, have an alarmingly low BB IQ, and have an inferiority complex the size of the Big Apple.
      2. That the Admin allows the students to chant F KU all night long shows an extreme lack of class and unconscionable hypocrisy.
      3. The crowd was far more excited that they played “Sandstorm” than any other aspect of the night which shows why they will never be in our league.
      4. The arena is nice but basic. The scoreboard is really nice and their sound system is amazingly good.
      5. There were more KU shirts than I expected.
      6. Their point guards are really bad.
      7. Higgins is the worst ref of all time and hell bent on engineering the outcome so the focus is on him. The bogus calls kept them in the game.
      8. Their bleachers are not flat but concave…a butt catcher, as it were, and quite comfortable.
      9. Bruce Weber is an idiot for not giving Johnson a touch in the low post every possession. We had no one who could guard him and he only took 7 shots. They win if he attempts 12. Instead their bad guards heave up nervous, ill advised 3’s., and DJ is placed frequently out on the floor where he is soooo uncomfortable.
      10. My perfect road streak is intact and I would most certainly never go back. Damn they are annoying.

Next stop on the Quest…Norman Invasion in 2018.
