    @Fightsongwriter

I have followed Jayhawk bball since junior high when Ted Owens was coach and the shorts were short. I saw Darnell Valletine play and I was hooked. My unique tie to KU and my claim to fame is I am the co-lyricist of the KU fight song. I updated and refreshed the lyrics to 'I'm a Jayhawk' in 2010, winning the odd contest put on by the alumni association which had no prize. Oh well, I am now tied to KU lore forever! Rock Chalk!

    • 100 Reasons Why Landen Made the Charity Tosses

When you hear this you will see why this deserves its own thread…

As reported by the LJW, our beloved big man, Double L, Landen Lucas, shot 100 free throws AFTER…YES AFTER the West Virginia game Monday night!!!

What a kid! I vow to never say another derogatory thing about him Again. We all have our short comings, but my goodness how impressive is it to have him head back out to Naismith court to practice after the emotionally and physically exhausting OT epic?

How did we beat Baylor? Tuesday morning freaking stud Landen Lucas was up at 1:30 in the AM practicing free throws. That’s how we beat Baylor.

    • RE: I miss Jaybate, I miss last year.

I was always astounded that @jaybate-1-0 articles were so much better and entertaining than any of the fodder kusports.com was putting out. He was a renaissance man journalist with greater intellect and writing skill than all the supposed journalists combined (thank the LORD keegan left!). Very often people don’t like the smartest guy in the room because they are often quirky and eccentric and well…a lot smarter than less secure people can handle.

I very much miss the deeper dive and thematic genius of his entertaining and wonderfully verbose masterpieces (and the occasional duds as well). As you may recall, he was alluding to his own health issues, so i find it a bit shameful to see some piling on now that no lengthy rebuttal will be forthcoming. We are Jayhawks, we should be better than that. I got the impression he may have been fighting serious issues as well.

If he unfortunately shed the motal coil, then I hope he is with James and Phog having some humdinger debates on the finer points of what he used to repeatedly call…the greatest game ever invented.

Go Jaybate go! You are missed.

    • The Amazing Bill Self

Saturday was the 100th loss for Coach at KU, and it took 16 seasons to get to 100. Remarkable. Tack on a few more we are likely to get this year, and by season’s end that will equate to just 6.5 losses per year. That my friends, is what they call - Stupid Good.

Despite the feel that this year is going to be a bit of a down year after our recent runs with Frank and Davonte leading the way, the sustained excellence we have enjoyed over the last 16 years is nothing short of amazing. I really hope Kurtis reminds Bill every day, “You know, you only need 127 more wins to tie Phog.”

    • RE: Bullet Points: KU 70, KSU 56 pathetic points

Doke’s FT% jumped 12%, so on the positive we could say he is trending upward! You could tell they made massive form changes, but then the chicken wing went flying out on the first couple throws. The last few and the 2 he made, he actually kept the elbow in, so I will call that some meaningful progress.

    • RE: Bill Self

There was a lot of home cooking at key junctures that altered the flow of the game. Bill rarely gets a T and the other coaches were seen laughing at the ridiculousness of multiple calls. It was atad farcical. The best part of the game was Silvio got some good minutes and he was stout on ths glass.

    • RE: Does Baylor's title make Self hungrier?

@tis4tim Clearly you don’t seem to understand the definition of homer. Or irony or civil for that matter. My comment that Drew taking over a complete and utter dumpster fire vs. Self taking over a stocked blue blood was, in fact, the opposite of a pro KU or homerish observation. Saying Self had it harder is like saying your Lamborghini has car troubles when it needs an oil change. Baylor’s Toyota was darn near totaled. The engine was certainly blown.

What I hear you saying is you are above someone challenging you for a ridiculous (my opinion) comment on a message board dedicated to dialog and opinions. But you can then turn around and do the exact same thing you accused me of being uncivil for (calling me a homer). Revealing blame-shift tactic. I call foul. If you don’t want to ever have an opinion challenged or debated, don’t post. And I never said following a legend and keeping the train on the track wasn’t a challenge, but to say it was more difficult than what Drew inherited perhaps just reveals you never coached a program. I doubt we would get any argument here from 99.9% of college coaches that Drew faced the (much, dramitcally, exponentially) deeper challenge.

And please don’t call me a liar either (talk about uncivil), there is nothing “self-described” about my contribution to KU history; it’s a relatively meaningless blip in the annals of KU lore, but it is fact. Look it up.

@Texas-Hawk-10 First off…never once did I say a word about a deep run. So you just making up crazy crap. 2nd…if you are suggesting Bryce was our best offensive player, we were clearly watching different teams. Och, Dave, Wilson, and Garret all ahead. heck maybe Harris and early season CB too. He could wind up being a nice player, but I just don’t see 5 star skills.
