If they shut down Perry Ellis again, we have no chance.

I think the guys will be on fire, and we’ll win by 20+
(Don’t worry, I’ll avoid the game chat so my optimism won’t ruin the downer party.)

RE: The Overrated ACC
@Blown I’m tied for second to last place ahead of someone who didn’t finish filling out the bracket in the bucket challenge.

As I recall, the Lite group was bitterly divided between “tastes great” and “less filling”

RE: Time For Self To Kill C5
Did anyone actually watch the last ten-ish minutes of the Tech game?
Definitely slower pace with Lucas in, but I’d say we played more under control with Lucas in the game than with either Bragg or Diallo (and definitely without Greene flying around).
The quarter of the game where you WIN, net production doesn’t matter.
Tied 44-44. What did Lucas do?
10:03 Lucas post layup
8:52 Lucas screen for Mason made 3
8:31 Lucas boxout, fouled on defensive rebound
8:10 Lucas screen on Svi missed 3
6:02 Lucas assist on Selden jam
5:04 Lucas screen for Mason made 3
3:20 Lucas bounce pass to SVI who missed the dunk, made 1 FT
2:25 Lucas screen for Selden’s made 3
1:42 Lucas ssist/lob for Ellis jam
On Devonte’s layup at 1:08 Lucas screened Selden’s guy and Selden would have had an easy dunk if Devonte needed to dish of the ball. By that point the game was won.
Lucas got scored on a couple times in the 2-4 minute range, but other than that, I understand why Self is comfortable with Lucas out there. He knows exactly where he’s supposed to be.
Until Diallo figures that out, it’s going to be Lucas.

RE: Kevin McCullar is returning!!
HUGE. Kev coming back is ten times bigger than any of the new guys, including Dickenson.
I’m not sure if y’all remember how inept last year’s team was with Kev hurt or on the bench. The guy is locked in like a coach on the floor. Juando and Kev + any three other halfway competent players is a damn good team.

RE: Mercy- - Mizzery got blasted
Well, basically this is the same penalty North Carolina got except for the penalties.

Ostertag on Ice
Being a retired professional basketball player sounds pretty rough. Greg Ostertag–bored with golfing every day–decided to become the world’s tallest hockey player.
Interesting quote:
“I’ll be the first to admit that I never reached my full potential as a basketball player. I took it for granted that I was 7 feet tall, and I rode that.”
Yeah, well we all kind of figured that!

I love the masks. Haven’t had to trim my nose hairs in months! Thanks to my expressive eyebrows and dancing eyes I’m still able to connect personally with people in Menards, Dillons, the liquor store… well, that’s pretty much it.

RE: Hot Take: We Overvalue our own players
@nuleafjhawk said in Hot Take: We Overvalue our own players:
"Kansas, the preseason No. 1 team in the nation, lost to the Arkansas Razorbacks in the round of 64, becoming the second team in college basketball history to lose in the first round after beginning the season atop the rankings. The other team to suffer that fate was the 2005 Kansas squad. "
We have some work to do.
True, but there was preseason #1 who didn’t make the tournament at all. Looking at you, NC, the year after we beat yo ass down 15 at the half.

RE: The portal.
The one thing the portal has definitely exposed is the self-aggrandizing egos some of these average players have. They ALL bolt, and programs are stuck trying to build teams around a bunch of selfish quitters instead of those chuds staying where they probably fit into a thought-out balanced roster originally.
I need to back away from this for a while. I’m just intensely irritated by the way this has played out for the past decade with Selby/Alexander/Silvio etc. and all that nothingness. There is no purpose for the NCAA at this point, and they brought it on themselves.
Jaybate… I’m probably heading to where you are (assuming you are still alive and happy). You were right.

RE: The portal.
Clearly the transfer portal and the NIL are not working. It sucks and has ruined college sports. I honestly have no issue with either the idea of the NIL or the portal but in tandem there have to be contracts and commitments and all the stuff that goes along with every other (professional) sports leagues. That goes for both the schools/businesses and the students/employees.
Want to commit to a school as a frosh? 1 year commitment like the old signing days. (I’d prefer 2, but at least this keeps rosters in check)
Transfer as a soph/junior … 2-year contract to whichever school. They have to keep you and pay you. No one year hopping around BS. Leave early and you sit a year.
Transfer as a senior. Sky is the limit.
That would at least settle stuff down for building teams 1-2 years. For the fans, you know.

RE: RIP Bob Davis
I just heard this news too. Kind of hit me hard.
A year ago, I moved my mom into assisted living at Pioneer Ridge in Lawrence. She was only there about two months before she passed (inoperable cancer), but during that stretch I spent a lot of time there. There were a few residents who sort of hung out in the main lobby area most of the day, and I sat and chatted with them all the time…including one cheerful guy who introduced himself as Bob. “Bob, with one O.” ha ha.
His voice was Kansas-ish familiar but not like his radio voice and he seemed taller and face was thinner than I remembered, but it was good ol’ Bob Davis. I found out by asking someone who knew him (not at the facility) that he was there living with his wife, who had Parkinson’s. For about a month and a half I talked to him like he was just “Bob the Greeter” because I figured maybe he got tired of talking about the KU sports gig with anyone and everyone who met him. Always wore blue KU golf shirts. Liked to exchange bad jokes, so I tried to have one ready.
Toward the end (while my mom was in hospice care), I was taking a break while she slept, wandered down to the lobby, and sat down to catch up on some work. Bob appeared from down the hall and sat next to me, and we had the only serious conversation we would have. He asked why I was there so often, and I told him what was going on. I asked him where he grew up and how he ended up in Lawrence, and he told me his whole life long story from Iola, KS, to Fort Hays State to Lawrence. We agreed that, looking back, it was sort of wild to end up where we were. So, at that point I finally thanked him for giving me and us KU fans such great memories for so many years.
His wife, Linda, just died last week on the 13th. I was wondering how he was doing. Thought about checking in many times in the past year… but, that’s about the best memory I have of the place.

Hate that Arkansas advances… but it’ll make sure I never forget how much I disliked this team built out of quitter transfers this season.
