John Buggs is a name to monitor.
Assuming that is the 13th guy spot? Does nothing good besides shoot the 3. Having a hard time finding just how many schools he’s been to, transferred 3 times since 23, think its 5 schools including Juco, wow. 68-99 made shots were from 3. Literally doesn’t do a single other thing at average level. Crazy.
Yeah JCL type player. In his own words he said he doesn’t care what role/minutes he gets. Wants to be on a winning team and get paid (even end of bench KU money is better than the places he has been).
Still working to see how legit this is from KU’s side.

So Vaughn, Buford in and then it sounds like more shake up is coming to the staff that we’ll hear about soon.
I like this direction; it certainly signals a major change for Self from the past 20+ years. Both guys have professional coaching experience, will remain to be seen how they do recruiting but we all know right now it’s more about NIL than anything else. This is a potentially positive change in the short and long term for the program.
Vaughn? For real? That would be a shocking step down for him. If that’s true, the succession rumors must be for real.
He’s likely an all time favorite for many of us, but I’d have to ponder if I’d like him as a KU head coach.
He’s in Lawrence and negotiations are on going.

Backup big potential Patrick Suemnick visited KU today. Wait and see mode now with him
This is sounding like it’s done

From what I understand, there was a fair bit of fatigue with the donors and changes were required.

Oops. No, not now! I meant a phase out. 1 or 2 years
This I would agree with. I think we will see a clear succession plan too. Bill doesn’t want to leave KU in a bad spot.
@TYOHawk What if Aaron Miles is also on staff?
@dylans said in Norm Roberts Retires:
@BShark He’s always been amongst my favorite Jayhawks. Not sure about his coaching chops. I felt he got the short end of the stick in NJ.
Was at a couple terrible teams as HC. From what I’ve seen, he has good/modern coaching concepts/ideas. Spent some time under Popovich too.
@dylans said in Norm Roberts Retires:
@BShark Jacque Vaughn is the only person I can think that fits that mold. I’m sure there are others, but I just have a hard time imagining him wanting to go down a level.
Bingo. HCIW talk too…he wants to be #9.
Some interesting rumors floating around…
Former player crowd might get their wish for the second opening, but someone you wouldn’t think would take it.

Duke is looking at Claude now so we’ll see…
Please by all means Jon, take the player Florida passed on.

@approxinfinity the Spurs already hired Pop’s replacement so yeah 0%

In case anyone wants to read it
Duke is always a concern. They operate on a different playing field.
@approxinfinity She’s being nicer than I want to be right now. Trying my best to abstain!

It’s my opinion Bill’s staff will retire one at a time then Bill will announce. I don’t see a reason for him to stay.
what
@BeddieKU23 said in The portal.:
Sounds like we may lead for Sarr, may hear good news there this week and then still swing big at Williams if he doesn’t stay in the draft. Very interesting.
The backup big prospect Mbiya picked Oregon- blah.
Mbiya NC State

Vernon reports this has been in the works for a bit, KU apparently has someone identified for the role but not sharing at this time. Also interesting that replacing Norm may not be the only Assistant Coach on the move…
Doesn’t think it will take long.
Bring on Danny and Sherron!
Hell no to both. Would be setting the program back…
Hearing Buford will get promoted.
First of many changes. Also not the first that was unofficially done this offseason…
@dylans I think those teams would rather have guys in their own system. But an interesting thought.

Didn’t he cook us once?
Had the game of his life frying Hunter. Legitimately was the best game of his career and it wasn’t close.
Seems like a good vet bench big to have.
He’s fine, especially when it sounds like he’d be the third big.

Also, just browsing through several 2026 NBA mock draft projections, I saw 4 different KU players show up, and potentially a 5th depending on what happens with Sarr.
We all know Peterson is OAD and in the mix to be the #1 pick in 2026. I did see Dame Sarr as top 20 pick, and also saw Flory, Tre White, and Bryson Tiller as second round picks in the various mock drafts out there. I did not see Darrion Williams on any 2026 mock draft which means most draft guys think he’ll stay in because I saw quite few names that have declared this year being projected as 2026 picks.
This year, KU has zero players invited to the combine. First time in quite awhile and very fitting…

Are we going to get Ahamad Bynum? https://amp.kansascity.com/sports/college/big-12/university-of-kansas/article305156881.html
They passed on him
He’s been kicked off two teams…
@FarmerJayhawk said in Recruiting Notes:
You obviously take Sarr if/when he wants to commit. Then keep recruiting Williams through the draft process. I don’t think there’s a realistic chance to get both but you absolutely recruit like there is.
If anyone is crazy enough to try it’s Billy Eugene
@TYOHawk said in Recruiting Notes:
I’m actually gonna disagree and go with the higher upside swing imo in Sarr. You’ll lose a few more non con games but if Self gets him to lock in we would have two lottery picks on the team.
I’m thinking we could see the news you are wanting fairly soon…
@FarmerJayhawk said in The portal.:
Bill was also in Cancun for most of last week so not a lot of recruiting was going on lol
There is a plot twist to this.
@BeddieKU23 said in Recruiting Notes:
It sounds like White will play the 4 here as of right now. Sarr looks strictly a wing, Williams is a grown man that I think you can get away with playing some time at the 4. Tiller is the backup there currently if healthy. Definitely need a wing scorer to pair with Dawson. Whether its an expensive option, a less expensive option or something even cheaper is what we are waiting to see what domino falls.
If you can get Williams it’s a no brainer to take him over Sarr IMO
Word is Illinois went with other options because they felt Sarr wasn’t worth the cost.
If 𝓣𝓱𝓮𝔂 let Bill get Sarr…watch out… That’s athleticism from 1-5…

yes, this is in regards to Sarr. Just speculation at this point. Hoping Swain on 247 can confirm interest/target
Swain just posted

He is quite the character.

Swain on 247 posted that the staff is very high on Council and expects him to be one of their best players. Interesting
Great basketball fit next to DP imo. As you know I wasn’t high on Storr but all the signees make sense this time so far
@BeddieKU23 said in The portal.:
Surprised Bama didn’t get him but I guess Duke’s NIL won out
I wonder if Coward has graduated because Duke has a lot of trouble getting non-grad transfers in (has cost them several portal guys).
So KU has been linked with Desmond Claude. Claude is visiting Florida this week. I’m not a big fan.
@mayjay said in The portal.:
No more walk-ons? Did our coaches age out of having more kids?
HA.
Casualty of recent changes. Everyone will be on scholarship now.
@Texas-Hawk-10 said in The portal.:
@drgnslayr You also don’t need a bunch of 40% outside shooters to be successful. Most of the players for next season project as mid 30% which is still good enough that opponents will have to respect and defend that. Florida was 35.5% last season (KU was 35.4%) which was 86th nationally, which was good, but not elite. I know you compared next season’s roster to St. John’s, but this team as constructed will be better at driving the ball and being able to score. Michigan St. made the Elite 8 shooting 31.1% from 3 which was 317th.
There is a gap in attempts between KU and Florida, but that’s just a Bill Self thing.
The last KU title team the major rotation players from three were: 40%, 38%, 26%, 38%, 32%. Not including JCL or Yesufu. Neither big shot threes (1-4 COMBINED). 36% as a team on less attempts than last season.
KU, imo will be good enough from three next year. There are many other areas they need to improve. I’m not worried about three point shooting generally as long as the last impact addition (ideally Williams) is a solid shooter.
@Texas-Hawk-10 If that’s what it is sure, but I wonder if Bynum would be okay with that.
@dylans said in Chiefs offseason:
@BShark I didn’t realize the low success rate of linemen returning from a patellar tendon tear (45%). I’m going to say it’s gotten better and the sample size goes back too far, but that’s a sketchy number. Burkholder has checked him out a couple times and cleared him, so that’s encouraging. However there is risk that he never fully recovers like Niang.
It’s a very bad injury for sure. Same that Elmarko had…
@dylans said in Chiefs offseason:
Drafting the big uglies - good. Not sexy, but the games are often won or lost in the trenches. I’m completely in the dark about the defensive players selected, but I like the positions filled.
Yep, the most important positions. Big swing on the Ohio State tackle, but I like the risk. top 15 guy in any draft if healthy…
@rockchalkjayhawk said in Chiefs offseason:
A big Hmmm on the Chiefs second and early third round picks.
Positions of need.
@BeddieKU23 4.6 for Darryn and Flory from KU alone…
Staff took their time and I think found good fits. I think they learned a major lesson about trying to have guys play a completely different way than they did the previous season. Watching Illinois games, it’s very clear Tre White would translate. Bill will use him in the same ways as Brad and it makes perfect sense. Good IQ and effort player. Won’t need to run much for him either, but he is a good cutter.
For people that don’t know the full deal with Council… KU actually started watching St Bonaventure games because of Lajae Jones (KU would never tamper) and fell in love with Council instead. Having watched a lot of Bonnie games myself I can see why on both fronts. Jones is a guy that should have better numbers but he will drift through games sometimes and doesn’t always assert himself. Council otoh is a certified DOG.
All this said they NEED one more meaningful addition. A guy with some size that can hopefully shoot it a bit.
