After I read your post I looked at 247 sports and saw 3 CB’S for him including Evan Daniels - -Then this morning got up and saw two more including Andrew Slater. - -WTF? - - -things not looking good… I had read a poster from another site that said he had told people that Self had pissed Williamson’s mom off if that’s true - -that’s really sweet…
Same poster also said that Hurt & JRE are far from locks , and i’m having a tendency to agree - have been hearing that UK is really making a push for Hurt and closing in and closing fast - -Like Betty said turning into a dumpster fire - - this sucks if it turns out. – ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Losing Capel hurt them. Both will be okay though lol.

Losing Williamson is on the staff, no other way around it. Kid is one of the best shooters in the country and I think is a player just starting to realize what he can become. Louisville deserves credit for out recruiting Self here.
If we whiff on JRE then its time to hit the panic button. It’s been trending this way anyway since the summer. Certainly doesn’t look like we have a clue what’s going on either from a fan’s perspective

Sounds like Self misread and misplayed a couple situations. In recruiting that can bite you. Not closing Williamson with all his ties to the program is pretty bad no doubt about it.
I’m not even sure where they turn now, there are no good realistic options at the 2/3. The staff was pretty all-in on Williamson. Braun is nowhere near an adequate replacement.

He may not be that adequate replacement but he might be the only choice at this stage - and that’s sad. - Same way on the Big’s GOD forbid we lose JRE and that could very easily happen - -and then If UK ends up taking Hurt? - - - gives a bad look for our staff this year - - who you going to replace them with? – Sure sounds like the staff screwed up with Williamson

No worries. Coach Self will pull a rabbit from the hat and an Ace from the sleeve…he always does and this is why KU wins so much.

Wing wasn’t a huge need anyway. Williamson wouldn’t have even started if KJ was still around. Ochai has been really impressive so far as well. Come on down, Braun.

@JayHawkFanToo Except for when he doesn’t and KU has some leaner years. Last couple years have been great though and I am not too worried here tbh.

Oooh. Man I’d love to see Jones in a KU uniform but if he is set on starting (I think you mentioned something on this earlier) that could be a major hurdle.

The recruiting services have Jones underrated still and Jones knows it. Some of the stuff my friend has been saying about him is more of a Top 30 player and Kai knows how much he’s improved so not only is he looking to be viewed as a top player but wants his future school to look at him like a starter and future pro. He works with 10+ D-1 athletes a year so I trust his judgement. Cuse did make an impression but Jones is holding out for blue blood interest. He has KU’s attention still from what my friend said

Braun is better than Lightfoot at the same stage. He’s not much of a downgrade from Williamson tbh. Just as good a shooter (better from 3), better ball handler, better rebounder. Probably not quite the athlete or defender yet.

@BeddieKU23 I’m a pretty big fan of Sam’s game as you know. If he thought he was going to come in and be anointed the starter or given big minutes year one I could see that being a reason for the staff to pivot. With KJ, Garrett and Agbaji in the picture it would take a pretty elite wing to do that, like Achiuwa elite, imo. So maybe Sam would just clog things up a bit. Idk.

I could definitely see him being a better ball handler. Braun was definitely a PG last year. I really like Sam’s overall offensive game and his little step back jumper in particular but if the staff is looking for more of a spot up shooter Braun makes sense.

@BeddieKU23 I think Braun is probably a better player than Mitch. Mitch is an athlete, but he is either undersized or underskilled depending on how you look at it. I wouldn’t say the same thing about Braun.
Braun is closer to Tyrel Reed than he is Mitch Lightfoot.

Yes. His older brother Parker had several P5 offers, including Arizona , and chose to be a walk on at MU; he is a pretty good player as well. Their mom, Lisa Sambothe (sp?) and I believe other relatives played ball at MU.

Let’s not go too crazy. He didn’t turn down a full ride at Arizona to walk-on at MU. He did do that to Illinois though, which is hilarious.

We’ll see how it unfolds with him here now. I’ll root for him to make the rotation but its not going to happen overnight either.
At least Braun is a good shooter with good size for either perimeter spot. Shooting was something Self wanted to address in this class

Definitely, all we can do is trust the staff’s evaluations and decisions. Williamson went in a diff direction and we pivoted to the next choice is how I see it. Maybe it was reversed.
