@kjayhawks sorry, its a sore spot and something i have strong feelings about. We did what we thought was right at the time. Remember we went through a pandemic together? That kind of affects things right? And very likely we are talking about correlation not causation regarding attrition and the discussion of politics
If you look around the internet I think you will find that an old school independent board like this with no monetization or surveilance capitalism is a bit of a unicorn. There are more populous places, but they may come at a price.
Still, i think we may be able to attract more users with a board reboot and better seo.

As i’ve said before, KU Buckets is the kinder, gentler board. Many thx for that, @approxinfinity and his invisible assistant.
It’s hard to believe people still post on that other site with all the daily douchebaggery.
I’m sure we all have posters over here that push our buttons a bit, to each is own, but not even in the ballpark of other sites.
And i’m thankful for that today

@kjayhawks also, i’m assuming cragarhawk is one of the relatives you mentioned. Go back and look at his last post. Its on his profile. He was batshit crazy at that point. I banned kuballin for 1 night because he wouldnt shut up shit talking juan during a game chat and cragar flew off the handle and got it in his head that it was political. So i think it would be good to reevaluate who was the one creating a toxic environment there.

And note, cragar was NOT banned for calling us a bunch of “fucking candy asses” despite what appears to be an earnest effort to get banned to prove his point. Lol. Sounds like in that post he mostly had a problem with America.

@approxinfinity I’m not going to go back and forth all night on thanksgiving. Forgot to mention my buddy @KUSTEVE leaving. I’ll give credit this has gotten better but I myself took a few year hiatus because anytime anyone said something that could be interpreted as right wing was attacked seconds after hitting the post button. Because none of the problems in this country are caused by democrats. They are genius’s not like they been in control 12 of the last 16 years or anything. I didn’t like that and didn’t think it was a correct way of thinking. So I’ll leave it alone and leave you with a quote “when you cut out a man’s tongue, you don’t prove him a liar. You proved you are afraid of what he has to say”.

@kjayhawks i just think its a mischaracterization of facts my man. Nobodys tongue was cut out. These people flipped the hell out and left. Nobody forced them out the door or silenced them. I am like 99% sure these guys were having tough times in general and it didnt have to do with the board. In fact, it may have been that they gravitated toward a MORE politically activated and homogenous bubble to express themselves in, something readily accessible somewhere else. I dont read these guys’ last posts and think “man these 2 guys were totally rational and reasonable and trying to stay away from politics but the woke ass lefties just would not let it go!” It was quite the opposite!

@kjayhawks also, for the record, i think youre more reasonable than those two guys. I will happily engage about policy, and agree that both parties have done an increasingly shit job for a long long time and are effectively a duopoly destroying our country while enabling each other. But again, would rather discuss policy than the parties. Policy we can probably come up with some interesting ideas. But all the political dichotomies we try to impose on people “left” “right” “conservative” “liberal” “dem” “republican” are abstracting us away from the issues and are def tired and toxic. Played out.

I like the idea of a fresh start to try to bring more people in. I would appreciate any effort to preserve the history of the board up to this point. There’s just too much gold to let it all go. (Of course I wish you could migrate it into the new site, but I get it…)
Also — and very important — I think the fact that you set up a new board with the sole purpose of socio-techno-political topics should provide an outlet for those conversations.
I think this board is at its best when it stays tightly aligned with KU sports. The depth of knowledge and thoughtful perspective on KU athletics is unmatched IMHO

I’m looking again at whether I can upgrade from our version. I’ve tried twice unsuccessfully in the past. 3rd times the charm? I’ll try to preserve as much as possible. If it doesnt’ work this time though, I’m going the route we discussed.

@approxinfinity I miss the banner at the bottom that showed who was active on the site at that particular moment. If I’m the only one commenting on KU football, I will find something else to do. But if the banner showed 30 other people on the site, I wouldn’t feel so lonesome commenting back to myself when no one else responded to my insightful comment.

Another one I have sent a chat message to was @KirkIsMyHinrich because I hadn’t seen him post in a long while and got nothing back. I took a break (as maybe others did) because of LIFE happening and issues taking precedent over some posts that I felt were derogatory to the kids who tried their best and just couldn’t live up to the standards we have grown to expect here. I found that with time and the BLOCK feature I could root out the ones that I just didn’t care what they said but still very much appreciated the facts and statistics that others have always contributed. I see our players as individuals trying to do their best and hated the constant slagging of their efforts. We were definitely spoiled by the 14 years in a row being Big 12 Champs/sharing and when things didn’t go our way, some took it out on individuals and collectively on the team. It didn’t help with Coach’s health issues and I think it culminated in some just leaving. I care deeply about everyone here because you helped me through some troubled times and to keep things in focus when all the world around me seemed to be going south. I saved @jaybate-1-0 's lovely tribute to my late husband and from time to time on those anniversary dates that come and go would reread what a complete stranger did who took the time to give me peace and hope. I think we all need each other to get the best out of ourselves. I ain’t going nowhere.
