Here is my biggest concern for Darryn , what I’m afraid of. That is there is a lot of people including myself to a degree, to many people have already set such high expectations for Darryn coming next year , that as good as he is he is not going to meet some of those expectations.
Now while the kid is a Stud , there are a lot of Studs playing the game in College and some Studs that have 2-3 years of College experience. I have read countless things people have said , and with the way the Season has played out I see things said like OH we need you Darry- -we need you now , come save us and so on. If he comes in and doesn’t get the things done that people are expecting then many will consider him being over rated bust , and that’s just not fair to Peterson.
Bottom line is no matter how good he is and he is dam good , but no matter how good he is, he is still what a 17-18 yr old Freshman getting ready to play his first minutes of power P-5 ball ? -What people need to remember is if he doesn’t get everything done that’s on peoples wish list like automatically taking us to the promised land doesn’t mean squat -he will already be carrying a ton of pressure on his shoulders trying to preform and knowing he is under the microscope and everybody watching waiting to see that SPECIAL play.
We have got to just temper our expectations right now- -don’t think he is a bust if he has a off game or half --or if he ends up not what in your mind us good enough- -That is one thing you don’t have to worry about - -he is good- --real good , but let’s let the kid play his game , he is going to do really good things BUT let’s hold off on the Super mans Cape for just a minute or two - -he STILL is a youngster, and even as good as he is-- it is still an adjustment.- -I just hope we keep a level head and if things fall short in a game or two, well everyone - -even Studs have off nights- -The Kid IS SPECIAL- - REAL SPECIAL but also there are other SPECIAL PLAYERS PLAYING THE GAME let this kid be a kid, he loves the game-- and oh ya WELCOME DARRYN glad you a Jay Hawk- - -ROCK CHALK

@Crimsonorblue22 Tiller played for Overtime Elite which is an invitation only league for top high school players that Tiller was playing in. Tiller got injured over the summer (ankle) and decided to enroll early at KU and redshirt to rehab and be around the program. He should be practicing with the team at this point unless he’s had a setback at some point.

@BeddieKU23 Elmarko is close to being 100% barring a setback. Self said in January that Elmarko should be 100% by March and would begin full contact after the season was over. Elmarko should be able to go through a full off season.
Elmarko should to be the starter next season with Peterson playing off ball, or even playimg the wing. Peterson hasn’t been a lead guard since his freshmen year of high school soccer I doubt he’s going to play that role next season.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I think Elmarko’s going to be my favorite Jayhawk next year. No pressure. Really really hope he gets back to 100%

Elmarko is 100% a top tier athlete assuming he fully recovers and didn’t lose explosion
He’s shown terrible in game awareness and can’t shoot so I’m struggling to grasp why we are so high on him.
The PG spot is where we should be hammering the portal……1, 3 and 4 spots will be wide open
If Self doesn’t attempt to bring in a dog and thinks Elmarko and diggy are enough….he’ll just continue to prove he can’t evaluate and build a good roster for 3 straight years

Still been limited to that as of last update recently. It doesn’t sound like he’s done a whole lot so far

I’m not sure we can project Jackson as a starter but I remain hopeful he will be one of the 7 or 8 reliable players next year. I do agree he should be playing full time lead guard and where he played as a freshman was mostly due to the Morris situation. We shall see if they trust him to be the guy that takes over

Bill prefers two capable ball handlers on the floor at once. Elmarko will start next to Peterson is my prediction at this time. The roster is so far from complete there is really no way to accurately predict anything at this moment.

I don’t think he’s gotten that in the last few years, it’s been Juan or disaster. Needs to be corrected this offseason for sure.

I wouldn’t bank on Elmarko starting coming back from that type of injury imo. If he can give us a solid 15-20 minutes I’d be fine with that.

I just want a Jersey kid with swag who stays positive, engaged and vocal while rocking cool glasses from the sideline to get lucky and have a healthy season. From a swag perspective, Elmarko seems to have it.

I think we need another recruiting prerequisite: either be willing to FIGHT for a win, or go somewhere else! I’m sick of recruiting players that look good on paper, but blow away in the breeze like toilet paper.

@rcjhdraft being able to catch a pass or inbound the ball would be an improvement from this years group.

@dylans It’d be interesting if BS will insert Tiller as the low-post guy and maintain his favorite high-low offense. Numerous times this season BS’s offense look stagnant - most opponents have been able to disrupt team’s perimeter passing and post-entry plays. Hopefully, mid-range jumpers are back with next season’s roster, 3pt is no longer fools’ gold.

Need two ball handlers - Rylan and AJ scare me in the open court. Mayo isn’t it, but has to play. Diggy does ok. Harris is really the only good ball handler. KJ and Hunt - no more than 2 dribbles.
I hope Bill goes to a more wing heavy offense with 4 out when Hunter is gone. Having Hunter and KJ as two of the best 4 players hamstrung this team. If Rylan or AJ had produced as expected the team would be far better. I still hold out hope for Rylan, but don’t expect him to be back unfortunately.

I hope to see some athletes at the guard spots for us next season. I think Elmarko, Mari and Peterson are already BFS (bigger, faster and stronger) than the likes of Diggy, Juan and Zeke. I do like Diggy being a back up guard next year tho.

There’s some smoke that yeah adidas is holding this together but the reason Townsend was out there on a Friday night wasn’t because “I’m supporting DP for senior night”
Well Josh and Wiggs didn’t commit until after their seasons were over so there was no worry they’d decommit before they committed. Darryn is as rock solid as it gets to KU.

I dont know whats normal and isnt with a high school player of the year and projected first overall pick. I would be checking in on a recruit of that caliber as well. Its a little different than a top 10-25 guy or whatever we typically headline our class with.

Do you know any updates on Elmarko’s recovery? He should be close to being cleared based on Self’s previous updates, correct.

The squad winning in front of a juiced AFH doesn’t change my thoughts on March
We’ve had 2 full seasons watching the same middling big 12 team so we all know what is coming
I won’t even bother to say anything when they lose unless it’s at Self who has assembled and judged talent really poorly
He needs to ride off into the sunset before he’s running Diggy at point, and calling late game iso plays for Flory when we have DP next year

We can just put a giant kibosh right now about him being a factor for next year.
Hopefully they will treat him like he’s the 14th guy and recruit over to fill the gaps we will have at the 4 and behind Flory (hopefully).
Another not ideal situation occuring similar to Elmarko’s last year. They have time to adjust at least

Minnesota just fired their coach. One player that stands out to me as a potential back up for Flory is Frank Mitchell. He started his career at Canisius where he led the MAAC in rebounding a couple of seasons ago. A PER of 19.6 last season while averaging 5 and 5 in while playing 16 mpg would be ideal production from a back up post player. He was 66.3% from the field last season so he doesn’t take a lot of bad shots. He is only a 40% FT shooter so not someone you’d want on the floor in crunch time, but that’s probably the biggest weakness in his game.
With the news about Tiller, KU is going to need a lot of post depth and Mitchell would appear to be a guy that fill that role nicely behind Flory. If Mitchell enters the portal, that’s a name I would be contacting to gauge interest his in backing up Flory.
