@kuballin10 yeah I think this is the least uncertainty I’ve had about a lineup entering the season for a long time. Usually there is at least some question around the 8/9th player.
Only thing this team is really weak on is a backup big but as mentioned, KJ can slide over there and would probably the best “backup 5” in the country if he was coming off the bench. If Braum doesn’t end up being servicable fill those minutes, I could see a world where Bill plays KJ 37+ a night.

A lot of buzz right now. He’s rapidly improving and the problem with Terio is a lack of consistency.

Found out I have a source on Flagg….Flagg’s grown up a lifelong Duke fan. Duke has zero worry he comes to KU - per a former Duke player.
The “lifelong Duke fan part” was in an article today or yesterday from a Duke site
The source is a friend of a title winning Duke player (frat brothers) and this former Duke player is still close to the program and says Flagg is practically a silent verbal. KU is trying but he isn’t going anywhere but Duke

Things just got better for us. Rakease canceled his vist to Arkansas and coming to KU instead. - -Arkansas was the one I was worrying about the most

Sounds like we are getting Flory, Philon and Passamore. That’s solid and some legit athletes to pair with KJ and Juan.
Get 2-3 top transfers and we reload.
I’m sick regarding Morris. He was legit in Puerto Rico before he got hurt and pathetic he was such a turd towards women and despicable. Not sure why people think it’s okay to ever do that. Disgusting.
Our team took a huge hit without him as morris was like remy he could make plays and he and Juan in the backcourt was crazy good on d.

It’s not a very strong class correct. Even with a 5 man class we are likely to have room for transfers.
Likely returners: Juan/KJ/Furph/Zach/Jamari. Add 5 FR. Still have 2 to give accounting for the reduction.
Have heard they want a project big man. However the one they were targeting is going to sign with Arizona. Will be interesting to see if they pivot or don’t bother.

Shoot unless they’re a top ranked kid, watch the door for a quick exit. Transfers are the way to go, they’ve used up their free I don’t wanna face reality card. A second transfer requires an actual reason to get a waiver to play immediately - and that’s good leverage to inspire a guy to work thru small problems. Also transfers are a proven commodity, most of the transfers KU pulls will be more like using the second tier teams as farm programs (like the Royals were thru the 90’s esp.) So start shaking in your boots if you’ve got a stud player, directional schools and Texas techs of the world KU UK UNC and Duke and the like are coming for your guys and there is nothing you can do to stop it!

Best three players by a lot: Kev/Juan/HD (duh)
Perhaps 4th best player: Elmarko
KJ has been so/so.
Timberlake, eh he is okay. Some athleticism to work with. “Mid” for KU’s level should be fine off the bench.
Furphy stocks are really up, especially long term but should contribute this year.
Parker…pray when he is on the court.
Going to play quite slow this year. Mainly as a way to keep HD on the court as much as humanly possible.

I’m hoping he just runs around like a madman and makes one good thing happen per game. If we set the bar low, his limited minutes could be entertaining.

Just praying Parker can play 5-10 a night and be serviceable. I expect it to be hit and miss for a while though.
KJ is just a gamer. He’ll find a way to be good because that’s what he does. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s much better than the chatter.

Yeah, we have to make it work with him in the lineup regardless. His athleticism and position versatility will be vital this year. Pulling for the kid hard after learning what he’s going through personally with his mom. I have no doubts he’ll shine for us like most kids do that stick around and earn it. I do have some optimism he can really give us a 2nd/3rd type scoring volume. Would really love to see the rebounding numbers improve as well but we’ll see. Hard to be critical of him too much imo

@BeddieKU23 While I doubt he will average in the 15-2o ppg range because so few do under Self, there is no reason KJ can’t go out ANY night and put up 20 points no matter where he is on the floor. Could be the 4, 5, hell even the 3 (#KJatthe3). Based on what I saw in the summer ball he KNOWS he needs to work on his shot and so is doing just that. If he can take 2-3 a game and make 25-30 percent, that will be enough to keep the D honest and give HD just that much more space.
But his real value is right around the paint area. He is quick, has good bounce, makes good decisions, and has shown he can score in close even against bigger defenders. I’m excited to watch him grow even more this year!

I hope KJ never shoots a 3 here again, I’d rather see him a 75-80% + shooter from the free-throw line then try to make shots he isn’t built for. 60% isn’t going to cut it and I hope that’s been as much of an emphasis for improving his shooting touch as anything.
As you mentioned his value is in the paint among other things. He could potentially be a really lethal 12-feet and in guy. Torvik shows he shot 70% on close 2’s and 46% on far 2’s, which are really good numbers & were the highest among the starters last season. I don’t know how much better he gets but he’ll probably see a usage increase so hopefully he’s prepared to take advantage of it. The dynamic of him working with Hunter will be very interesting.

Agree, wonder what Torvik’s definition a ‘far 2’ is. He certainly wasn’t lining up long 2’s (close to 3 point line) like Kev and J-Will did last season. I do remember a lot of 1 hand touch shots within 10 feet from him.

2cents… KJ shouldn’t take 3s at high volume, but the team would benefit if he could take and make a few to open things up.
For instance, what if KJ goes 1 for 3 on average for games?
Curious what others think: Is that enough to have an effect on the D? or does it waste too many possessions…
The big problem with KJ taking 3s is that our best rebounder is beyond the 3 line. But maybe it’s OK with HD in the paint.
