I mean just have to wonder I mean sure probably not going to find as good of defender and yet just wonder if we can’t possibly do a little better ppg wise - - 3 pt % wise little more consistent -a real bucket getter - I have pro’s and con’s both ways. No guarantees we find better - -it’s a crap shoot-- I dunno- -I just dunno - -kind of a dam if we do - - dam if we don’t. I like him a lot I really, really do - -but can we do better ?

Portal: Ike, Bamba (assuming he doesn’t go nba) and say Moore from Nova? That would be nasty! With as much as Jay Wright likes Self curious if he’s nudging Moore a little…
Elmarko who will be a stud @Jethro - just making sure you see this I’m fully on the Elmarko train! He will be off the bench which is crazy our bench should be legit with Udeh, KJ, Elmarko ect.

I wouldn’t totally rule it out. I don’t see McCullar getting drafted and I also don’t think he’s a lock for two-way contract if he’s not drafted. If that’s the case, he’d make more money coming back to KU from NIL deals and any non two-way pro contract. McCullar has a lot more to gain coming back than going pro. If he comes back and doesn’t improve his draft stock much, then he’s right back where he’s been the past two years, but if he does improve his draft stock, he’s in a mich better position.

2024 draft is weaker than 2023 right? That’s the only reason I’ve held out hope Gradey comes back

I think Murrell is a STUD so I’m not surprised Beard retained him and Brakefield.

Bennett is awful I can’t stand his philosophy
Staff has whiffed a lot lately between starting a 6-6 5 man and having no bench so if they have their pick of the litter they better get it right
Ochai and Braun developing, plus a missouri st kid and remy won the title it wasn’t like pulling those kids was some big recruiting win. Heck Bill didn’t even see potential on Och initially and had to pull his redshirt after enough practices where he couldn’t be denied

Not quite true. The lifting of his RS happened around when Udoka got hurt.
I’ll grill Self a bit for keeping Cam around. The thought was that Zach was going to start so that was part of our problem trying to portal in another big last offseason.

Shedrick’s PER is in near elite territory, 24.9 this year and 23.7 in '22. His block rate has also been north of 10% the last 2 years so he would be an elite rim protector which would make up his deficiencies in rebounding. His rebounding rates are in line with what Jalen Wilson and McCullar did last season. Shedrick would definitely be huge defensive upgrade over anybody else currently on KU’s roster or connected to KU. Virginia’s leading rebounder only averaged 5.8 per game. A big part of those rebounding number is the snail’s pace Virginia plays at. He would be a double-double machine here, but at starter level minutes 10-7 seem like reasonable numbers for him. And his FT shooting and range have gotten better each year.
While he wouldn’t be a Big 12 POY candidate most likely, he would a really good addition to KU’s roster and I’d love to see him in Crimson and Blue, but I’m assuming he’ll end up elsewhere that he’d get more minutes than he would here.

Look at what the expectation of the roster was going into the season. Harris, McCullar, Dick/Rice, Wilson, and Clemence starting with bench pieces of Pettiford, Yesufu, Dick/Rice, Adams, and Udeh/Ejiofor. Most people assumed Self was going to end up with a 9/10 man rotation which isn’t normal for Self. Rice and Clemence were absolutely the two biggest bench killers this year as they were expected to play much larger roles this season and obviously didn’t for their own reasons.

Saw some highlights he can definitely block some shots and help the back end of our defense but not 100% sold yet

Honestly with the attrition we’ve seen so far I wouldn’t mind keeping the kid at the end of the bench if he likes it that much.

With the reduction in scholarships I don’t think that’s feasible. He hasn’t played basketball in 3 years now

We’re going to 12 scholarships with the reduction right? I mean if he wants to be the 12th guy it doesn’t bother me because Coach likely isn’t going to have 11-12 guys playing in his rotation.

Correct, 12.
The way I see it, Kyle’s spot could be used to get an impactful transfer. That 12th spot is now used to find a starter or Top 8 rotation guy, I think that far outweighs the returns you’ve gotten from Kyle so far.

Don’t think people should speak in absolutes when it comes to this stuff. Shocking things have happened in the past and will happen again in the future. We don’t know exactly what is going on in their heads. People don’t always do the most logical thing or the thing that most of us would choose. Circumstances and minds can also change over time. Its just best to never say never in my opinion.
