Tbh i still assume that we will be several years out from any chance of a title with the return of Flory. It means we avoided a nuclear meltdown this offseason and next year will be enjoyable to watch. Much needed continuity.

Tre is a really nice role player. Guard, rebound, be a threat from deep. Exact role TBD by other additions. But he’s a really smart player who will embrace his role. He’s much much more McCullar than Storr.

On Auburn Rivals, they are expecting Flory to return to Kansas, is what I read by the admin for Kansas Rivals.

Most of this smoke is coming from Auburn people. Their Rivals writer said Flory back to KU and Tahaad leaving is likely. They were recently linked with another big man in the portal too…
Not saying it’s 100% by any means, but it’s at least interesting.

It likely is a pretty fair number. Again not saying it’s done, but KU seemed to back off other bigs again while Auburn started looking around some more on Thursday. Just connecting some dots it at least looks good better right now than it did a few days ago.

I will say I know nothing here. He could very well still end up at Auburn.
The Dix recruitment was a common reminder that the initial chatter is almost always correct. His mom wanted him at Creighton and everything else was just about making sure Creighton paid up. Hopefully not the case with Flory/Auburn here.

Yeah it’s so fluid you never know which info is going to be correct. Everything is about pushing the price up basically. Would like to know one way or the other today.

It’s year to year at this point as far as building title contenders. Darryn Peterson may very well be the best player in college basketball next season and we just saw the best player carry a bunch of other freshmen and newcomers (only 2 returning rotation players) to a Final Four.

And the way Self is going after players in the portal this offseason shows Self is learning and adapting because he isn’t just targeting the best players, he’s targeting fit. Jayden Dawson and Tre White’s strengths as offensive players match what Self wants to do as did Josh Dix who is the other name we know for sure Self aggressively pursued.

Sounds like we do have a good back-up plan at the 5 if Flory goes to Auburn. Not in the portal yet, so I will refrain from naming.

One of the Arizona state bigs is transferring. Nothing special but he’s 7 feet and can finish a lob.

That’s the kind of range we will be recruiting in for bigs with Flory back and Tiller around.

I will just put out there this reminder – and, yes it might be rose-tinted a bit… But, just remember that this year’s much maligned team beat Duke and, barring an unimaginable collapse, would have beaten Houston as well (two Final Four teams and possibly the National Champion).
I’m convinced that what happened to this team wasn’t about talent and skill. And we may be over-rotating on roster construction as well. What happened was intangible stuff in the heads of players/staff and in the locker room. Whatever the bug-a-boo was needs to be eliminated.
If the rebuilding is proceeding the way it sounds, I’m loving it.
I still think Bill Self is the Man and has a great feel for players and can coach with the best of them. If he can get his guys to fix the phantom issue, this program WILL perform well again. That’s my 2 cents.

Yea it was just a bad mashup of personalities. The guys never got on the same page and you saw it in late game execution. They were a team that never really found the right pecking order either. Like who takes the last shot?
Talent was never the issue and advanced stats also showed that it felt like.

@bskeet losing to Houston that way may have broken our season. We carried a couple choke jobs into it and a win could have pointed the trajectory up. Instead, we nose dived.

I think a back-up big, another 3/4 type wing (has to be starter good) and one more decent guard. Then filler probably.

Bill getting back to his roots. Notably he has been more hands on this cycle. Both out commitments have mentioned how Bill was running the lead on recruiting them.
