I love good old fashioned stats. The youngsters are saying this and that about these non advanced stats and why this effective whatever is better or why you really need to look at PER. I would if I had a PHD in stats! But for me, these are good enough. I like the stat that he has missed 52 shots from the field all year and missed 53 FT’s! Heck, I just looked, Trae Young has missed 60 SHOTS in the last 5 games!

@Fightsongwriter I do lack confidence right now in Newman with the ball. I bet most everyone does. Driving and taking a bad shot that gets blocked, when an open player is waiting for the dish isn’t a turnover. But we lose a possession. He does seem surprisingly shaky with the ball. Choking on the press, where the turnover leads to an easy basket. Like the combo guard that ain’t totally a combo — meaning the PG part is lacking. With Newman, it’s all made worse by his ranking and our expectations of having a potential conference player of the year, or something just short of that. For me. I don’t see him contributing greatly to team success on the court yet. But man, we need him to flip the switch. As critical as anything right now.

If KU shoots the ball like they could on their best day, they are basically unbeatable. You can’t do much if KU hits 17-20 threes. On the other hand, this team is vulnerable to a cold spell that could doom them against a far inferior team.
