Players Era Bologna Tourney

@approxinfinity Tre White was someone KU recruited out of high school and I believe committed to KU at one point before going his odyssey. With Council, KU was initially looking at a different player at St. Bonnie’s, but ended up loving Council more.

I hate how it’s not a true tournament and we could miss out from the title game by only winning both games by double digits lol
I don’t care about the championship here, I want KU to play a good team because Notre Dame and Syracuse are unlikely to make the NCAA Tournament. I’d much rather see KU play Michigan, Gonzaga, or Auburn to close it out and get another game against a really good team to help Flory and Tiller play without fouling.

Correct he committed to KU very early on in high school and it didn’t stick.
The staff received a recommendation on Lajae Jones (ended up at FSU, KU passed) and Council really stood out when they watched. I do actually know the guy that passed along with Lajae rec, not sure if I’d say friend but we are cordial with each other.

The portal has been a positive this time I’d say. Two very good players and there is still a chance with JD. His wrist/hand injury was really unfortunate as I felt he was coming along a bit.

Two teams ND and Cuse kept coming at us over and over and they’d get it to five or seven but we fought them off with a team that has only played a few games together. Impressive. These types of games probably will pay dividends. Flory what the heck you are playing like a top AA and turn it over seven times.
While Flory did have 7 turnovers, he only had 2 fouls. I’ll take that trade. Keeps him on the floor.
14 rebounds is pretty good too.

@DCHawker nice pNR pass too
-
@sabramo19 needs a bandaid!

For sure this tournament means very little in the big picture but as Self would say “We gotta play so we may as well win”
-
@BeddieKU23 Yes he is , he really has done more then I expected, didn’t think h would be that much of aa scorer. I love the way he takes the ball to the hole, and plays through contact- --really scraps for rebounds just complete player, has become one of my favorite players

I’ll take beating a power 4 team by double digits down a starter all day on a neutral floor. Thats the thing with this group, they are improving and haven’t came close to their ceiling. Last two years we were who we were in November so we beat teams like UConn and Duke with experience over 18 and 19 year olds. But we never got any better, Hunt couldn’t guard anyone, Juan refused to shoot and we had no threat from 3 point land. This years team would spank and the last two teams by 20 plus prob right now but without question by seasons end. Nice to actually enjoy watching KU basketball.

Thought they were gonna keep conference teams apart? Could it be tennesse?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 don’t think it can be Houston with them losing
-
I think there is an outside chance we could play ISU, Baylor and Houston with loses won’t be in the top 2
-
I think it’s the 2-0 teams plus points
-
Michigan zags win?
-
Michigan probably gonna be top, 28 pts ahead at half
-
Right now I believe it would be Michigan #1 and us 2 from what I’m seeing not sure tho
-
Okay looking at an update looks like it’s most likely Gonzaga vs Michigan for the title and us versus Tennessee for third unless something crazy happens.
-
we’ve played Tennessee in Maui, Atlantis and now probably Vegas all within the last 5 years
-
@rcjhdraft seems like they have kicked our butts a lot of memory serves me right
-
@kjayhawks yeah we’ve lost to them both times. Third time’s the charm?
-
Zags are ahead of us in pts. Their game isn’t over.
-
So we play Tennessee next? Confusing. Oh, and AI sucks. I’ve seen like three different, opposing summaries of who is in the championship game. Weird.
-
Fans of other teams and journalists getting mad when everyone knew the rules beforehand is very stupid. Teams were leaving in their starters late BECAUSE margin mattered…
-
-
I don’t care whether we are in the “championship game” or not. I just want us to win.
-
Agreed, and don’t get why fans/journalists are getting mad about the rules now. Maybe casual fans hear that a team was crowned the players era champ and that carries some marketing weight, but that is going to be a small set of people. Difference between the teams that go 3-0 really doesn’t mean anything in the long run. I was also under the impression that the current players are the ones that miss out on the prize money, so not like this goes into NIL budget for you to recruit for next year.
I would understand if the players missing out on money are a little upset about though.
-
Money!

@kjayhawks Selective memory! We actually played them in Hawaii I think in the Maui two seasons ago. It says Honolulu, but I think that was after the fires. We beat them by nine. The two previous meetings were ugly, but we’re 5-3 in the series this century. That’s a lot of meetings for a team that’s not in our conference but we can expect another tough one today and wouldn’t be surprised to see us lose nor would I be surprised to see us win.
