I know nothing about Tony Bland. What are the pros and cons of this hire?

He was caught up in the FBI investigation, but had a very light sentence. Didn’t get caught paying players but was caught taking some ~$4000 I think from the FBI sting that was trying to catch coaches paying players. Most asst coaches at the time were probably doing the same thing so idk if it worth clutching the pearls over.
Seems to have come out of that with a decent reputation though which makes it seem like a decent hire? That reasoning isn’t based on much though.

It’s mostly the “cons” that of interest with Tony Bland.

Basically he barely escaped prison time for his hefty role in the Adidas bribery scandal.

Hefty role? Lol he wasn’t even caught paying players with the money. I have no problem with people being against the hire, but lets not get carried away here.

Fair enough, maybe not hefty. But, tainted nonetheless. I just think there were plenty of other guys out there who would do just as well, without the history and baggage.
I’m sure others will argue he’s such a nice guy, and seemed way better than all those other guys who got caught in the FBI scandal.
At a minimum, he accepted bribes. I think we can do better.

Yeah definitely reasonable to not want to associate with that at all.
I just don’t personally don’t have any issues with the hire based on the charges. He at least served some sort of punishment for it vs the majority of other assistants doing the same thing that never got caught.

The Good: Great recruiter with great connections. The Bad: Obviously The FBI Scandal. Make no mistake Addias was very involved with this hire.
Overall, I’m happy with the hire.

Yeah complaining about that is the equivalent of not hiring a guy that was caught with a gram of weed 20 years ago. It’s a total non-issue. And his relationships on the west coast will pay significant dividends.

West coast players love Tony…
No area is putting out better talent than the west coast right now so I love the hire.
