Transfer Rumblings
-
I will just put out there this reminder – and, yes it might be rose-tinted a bit… But, just remember that this year’s much maligned team beat Duke and, barring an unimaginable collapse, would have beaten Houston as well (two Final Four teams and possibly the National Champion).
I’m convinced that what happened to this team wasn’t about talent and skill. And we may be over-rotating on roster construction as well. What happened was intangible stuff in the heads of players/staff and in the locker room. Whatever the bug-a-boo was needs to be eliminated.
If the rebuilding is proceeding the way it sounds, I’m loving it.
I still think Bill Self is the Man and has a great feel for players and can coach with the best of them. If he can get his guys to fix the phantom issue, this program WILL perform well again. That’s my 2 cents.

@bskeet Better locker room/culture will be key

Both from players but also from the staff. Staff needs to look in the mirror as my favorite movie says - “attitude reflects leadership….captain”
The other name you haven’t mentioned…do you like him more or less than Flory?

Yea it was just a bad mashup of personalities. The guys never got on the same page and you saw it in late game execution. They were a team that never really found the right pecking order either. Like who takes the last shot?
Talent was never the issue and advanced stats also showed that it felt like.
-
@bskeet losing to Houston that way may have broken our season. We carried a couple choke jobs into it and a win could have pointed the trajectory up. Instead, we nose dived.

I would like for Jeremy Case to leave. He was a big part of the problem.

FLORY IS BACK BANG

Shaping up to be pretty long and athletic team. Very happy with the start to the portal.

Always hated the hire

DP, Flory, Tre and Dawson plus hopefully a still athletic Elmarko……so far looking good!

Dawson is a pitbull. Total dog. Shows up on tape too. Shit talker.
I think a back-up big, another 3/4 type wing (has to be starter good) and one more decent guard. Then filler probably.

Bill getting back to his roots. Notably he has been more hands on this cycle. Both out commitments have mentioned how Bill was running the lead on recruiting them.
-
You’re gonna need that 3/4 athletic wing to deal with guys like Dybantsa and Peat in our conference.

RJ Luis
Is that a wing and a prayer or a bit or reality?
KU is actively recruiting him and has the money to get it done. We will see.

We now sit with:
Guards: Dawson, Jackson, McDowell, Peterson, Shelby
Wings: Calderon, White
Bigs: Bidunga, Tiller
As of right now, I would assume the rotation players are next season are: Bidunga, Dawson, Jackson, Peterson, Tiller (dependingon his recovery), and White. That would leave 2-3 rotation spots open and I generally agree there needs to be starting caliber 4, a back up 3/4 player, and back up PG should be the priorities and 3 filler players.

Everything I’ve seen with RJ Luis is UConn or Miami if he comes back to college.

Fwiw Swain just posted in line with what I’ve heard and fairly similar to what you posted here.
“I think the spots will be a starting wing, a guard, a backup big and a very inexpensive player.”

That gets KU up to 13. They will go to 14. 14th should be Corbin Allen.
-
@BShark - if possible, what’s the deal there with Case? I thought he was a pretty good recruiter but have no ideas about his coaching abilities. If you like, PM please.
-
@Gorilla72 im like to hear the short version as well.

Guard spot needs to be that “microwave” bench guy. Stud Wing. Backup big needs to be decent. Ideally a guy who could possibly start next season…

So where to we now stand with open spots ?
