I Know it's Pointless, but what if. . .

Arterio Morris got a federal court injunction against KU’s dismissal from the team like Terrence Shannon did at Illinois? I have to admit I was really disappointed that Shannon played out the season for Illinois despite a Douglas County Kansas pending felony case, while Morris languished from juco team to juco team due to a Douglas County felony case that just got dismissed. Shannon’s charges remain pending. It doesn’t help to speculate about the charges and the reasons why cases get dismissed. I’m really wondering how much Morris would have helped this year’s team. We didn’t see him on court enough to tell how he would have fit in with the rest of the guys, but I remember wishing for another scorer throughout the year just before Johnny got going for several games. And, another scorer would have helped replace Kevin’s points when he got hurt. Maybe, Morris was dismissed for reasons other than the pending charges, but I sure wonder if Morris hired a lawyer and got an injuncton if that would have been a positive for KU, expecially with the dismissal of the charges against him.

Counting the minutes before this post gets ugly…(sorry, flop)

Not worth it. Some things are bigger than shooty hoops.
-
I imagine Self would “vigorously” coach someone who obtained a court injunction forcing the team to take him back. I’m a coach (not basketball and not at this level) and my inner sadist gets excited just thinking about the possibilities.

The Terrence Shannon trial in Lawrence this week isn’t getting very much notice, but I read that both Dickinson and McCullar testified. The charged offense occur in a crowded Lawrence club and both Dickinson and McCullar were there and were called to testify but only as witnesses who didn’t see anything. The trial should be over this week.

@FarmerJayhawk Ahhh - that was true before we abandoned morals and scruples and started recruiting professional athletes.
-
@nuleafjhawk Like Wilt?

So like 1890?
-
Shannon was just found Not guilty on all counts -Rape - - and I think sexual assault ?
-
@FarmerJayhawk I feel like we were pretty good up until the start of the 2000’s or so. Just my humble opinion.
-
@mayjay Dude. You’re Wilt bashing?
-
@nuleafjhawk it’s well known that Wilt’s recruitment was hardly moral or scrupulous
-
@FarmerJayhawk the story I’ve always heard was Missouri was waiting for him in the bathroom at the airport in KC and offered him 50k on spot to go there. So we probably paid him more than that lol

Never! And it causes me no moral qualms to believe that very few athletes I ever rooted for at KU had chastity belts on their bank accounts.
-
@kjayhawks Wilt claims he was paid about $4,000 to come to KU from an article I found from 40 years ago.

I will guarantee KU has had shady recruiting practices since at least the post WWII era when college sports started becoming much more popular.
-
Illinois player not guilty. Interestingly, Morris was mentioned as being accused of the same conduct in the same bar.
-
I’ve always been the King of Naivety, so I’ll continue to believe that we weren’t any more “corrupt” than other colleges, and less corrupt than most.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 a cool read and 4k was a good chunk of change back then.
-
@DanR it definitely does make you scratch your head on the matter with Morris I’d like to think Self and Co did some investigating of their own. The same probably happened with Shannon because he still played. I’ve seen false allegations destroy peoples lifes too often the last handful of years since the metoo and believe all women movements.
-
Most rapes and assaults go unreported because it’s so hard to relive it and how they are treated.
-
We’re up to 3 credible accusations of violence against women by Morris. Hopefully the new DA prosecutes for this one. Shame on anyone who takes him on at this point.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 definitely true and false accusations are huge part of that issue. We all should be up in arms about it for that very reason.
