@wissox I have agree with @cragarhawk assessment we don’t look good even in victory. On to Saturday can we pick up a road win against a team that has a conference win? I honestly don’t care about conference titles anymore. Just go undefeated at home and sweep the Mildcats.

The Halftime report mentioned how non-athletic KU is this year. I disagree. Sure, we’ve had more athletic teams… but this team just isn’t hustling.
Furph the only guy to crash the boards. He still has his high school body, but he can do it.

Starting with Hunter. 7’2" and only 6 rebounds. Seriously? Try moving your arse closer to the goal, also on offense, maybe score a few points.
KJ… come on, man! 3 rebounds in 38 minutes! Close your eyes next time and the ball will find you at least 5 times in 38 minutes!
Juan… 5 TOs… the worst at the end in the back court that kept Cincy in the game. Where is your head, dude?
Kevin… another great grinder game for you! The team is on your back now! Hope you can keep holding up the weight, brother! A+
Furph… what is he, 18? Body of a boy, but heart of a man… a big man! He’s out there doing what our veteran guys aren’t doing! A+

Hunter and Kev are playing through knee/leg injuries. Neither is 100%, Hunter might be like 70% based on how he moved last night.
Gotta find a way to start winning those 50/50 balls which we are not doing consistently.

Would be really nice if Zuby or Udeh would’ve stuck around for depth, Parker is too small. When Parker is the 5 it doesn’t look like anyone is over 6’6” on the court. (No way Furphy is 6’9”).

Funny that you call it a rebound game. Rebounding was the main issue vs. WVU. KU got outrebounded by a lot. Again. Still, Furphy ends up with a career high 11 boards.

I think this is on target. I didn’t watch the whole game but seemed to me when the whole team would play with energy and effort, we’d get out to a bit of a lead, then they either got tired or lost focus and would let them back in. You can literally tell every possession on D whether it will be a good one or a bad one based on how hard everyone tries on the first ball screen.
This is the most wildly inconsistent team I can remember. Game to game, even possession to possession. You just NEVER know what you are going to get.

I’m so scared for the KSU games because you know they will at least bring energy and it doesn’t seem like we can consistently count on that from our hawks this year.

Braun is as well given that’s like one of his main jobs when in the game.

@benshawks08 for sure, not a positive outlook right now. Furphy is gonna need someone else to get after the ball like he has been. I love to be a fly on the wall in the film room today hopefully some guys get called out for their lack of effort and energy. The old saying goes “Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard”. This team doesn’t have the talent to go out and just go thru the motions. I think that’s pretty evident at this point in time.

KU needs to make sure Johnny’s parents are at all the rest of KU games. Please find them a room at McCarthy. Johnny played with more energy than past games. We need his energy in every game the rest of the year. The rest of the team? I don’t have anything positive to say, so I just won’t say anything. It’s very difficult to watch this team no matter who they are playing.

@BeddieKU23 KJ’s body language has not been good the last couple of games. He’s either exploding off the floor for a dunk or kind of just standing around. When he’s engaged and leaning on his athleticism, he is a legit player, but more and more I see him coming out of that stance and standing straight up and down or looking tired. Same goes for Juan honestly. These guys all seem TIRED. But they have the same schedule as every other team…

IMO at the level of athlete he is he should be crashing the boards with reckless abandon. It’s what will keep him on the floor if he ever tries to go into the pros since he’ll never be able to space the floor. I agree with you that it’s baffling that he doesn’t do it.

Yeah, KJ is probably playing too many minutes overall. It’s not the minutes per say, he’s in incredible shape but it’s the toll defensively that’s getting to him. Self is making guys switch 1-4 and you see how many times a game KJ is guarding a 6’1 guard at the end of the shot clock and it’s got to wear a dude out. We forget he’s 6’7, 235 and not some string-bean guard.

Maybe we let KJ suit up for the other team some game this season. If a guy like him is playing against KU he can go 4-6 from three and really get confidence in that jumper.

Self is the master at knowing how to rest these guys outside of games. He lightens their practices so they aren’t adding wear on non-game days.
I’m not buying into the tired excuse. There are other players in this league putting in big minutes. And we aren’t out there going 110% during games.
I usually cut our guys a lot of slack. But I’m not buying it here. If it’s true, we might as well forfeit March now, save the humiliation!
Kevin is out there hustling his butt off… why can’t the others?

Are they just hitting the usual January lull before the level of play picks up again? Or is this what they are at this point? I’m not buying the latter this early, Self has always found a way to push the right buttons. Hard to doubt him
