VCU forward Hasan Ward transfers to Iowa St

ISU fans are cracking me up still. Hunter obviously went to ISU, without ever stepping foot in Ames previously, for free. And he stayed with the coaching change, for free, because he loved that school he’s never seen in person so much.

ISU, maybe correctly so, puts quite a bit into football these days. It might be a struggle for them to maintain relevancy in basketball unless they divert more there.
Personally I rather enjoy KU’s appoach to limited funds. Be great in basketball.

They taking it as well as KU fans took Bryce or Grimes leaving?
I do find this situation a bit odd. As you mentioned he stuck with ISU even after his coach was fired, had to establish a new relationship with TJ & then played under him and led them to the Sweet 16.
It was already social media rumor that Hunter was being courted by other programs without being in the portal officially. Now he’s in and its high bidding time. Not sure that’s someone I actually want from the portal. We all see he’s a really good player that’s going to get better but from an 8 foot view it certainly seems like he’s chasing a bag more then chasing other things. Who knows.

The brand recognition alone from having an actual top tier program vs. trying to be Wisconsin-lite is a no-brainer to me.

I fully think loyalty is to the biggest paycheck. But he’d be locked down here. It would be either the NBA or stay for three seasons. And he plays his ass off so I’m good with it. Not like a guy who has talent but plays when he feels like it.

Sounds like he spent some time back home in Wisconsin after their tournament exit in Chicago. Old people from his circle got in his ear. One of his old teammates upgraded from a small school to Wisconsin and he got to see the financial difference.

Agree he definitely plays hard and has plenty of talent that fits here. Just wondering how locked in he’ll actually be after he gets the bag he wants. It’s an interesting dynamic I’m watching with this NIL.

@BeddieKU23 Thats a nice site, seems to show everyone. I had found this one https://www.on3.com/db/transfer-portal/wire/basketball/2022/ but the names were different. It gives the ability to filter and shows interesting information like “NIL Value” and stuff like that. It says Emoni Bates just entered however your site doesn’t say that. Maybe its showing when it posted? I don’t know.

The top part lists all recent updates either entering the portal or a player selecting a new school. If you scroll down and search via name you’ll find him or by old school. He’s on that list. On3 is another resource as well although not as up to date as VC
