Alright so the only thing I was really disappointed in tonight was Doke. He looked bad. He needs to be better.
The turnovers and the slow 2nd-half are typical things with young/new teams.

Yes, actually. He can shoot and is athletic but he looked lost in other regards. If he isn’t going to get many minutes this year and is willing, the year off just studying the game could really help him improve.

- If spacing is better, I think he has more outlets to pass out of a double-team.
- He won’t be double teamed as much.
I wouldn’t be worried yet. He did look rough tonight though. I do think he may end up getting a degree here though… I don’t think the NBA would touch him still.

Also, Doke will do better when we aren’t running up and down the court like this. And you can bet that we won’t be able to do that all season long. Add in that we basically didn’t run an offense tonight.
Doke is not an NBA guy (yet). He is not meant for an out of structure type of play (yet).

Said it earlier in the thread and the bar is low, but Bahe is probably the best color guy we have had for these JTV games.

The way garrett plays, he’ll get a lot of minutes. He is just nails in every way except the 3 pointer. His drive to the basket was a work of art.

@Kcmatt7 I like him too. I thought he had a good game-plan doubling the post and the defensive rotations were good. They made some tough shots. They were just out-classed in terms of personnel. I agree, good coach.

They played with the future national champions for most of the 2nd half. No shame in how they played tonight.

I think they just showed a graphic of the Jayhawks box score lines. 10 guys on it, and Doke wasnt one of them. ouch.

15 of the 22 turnovers were from Dedric, Doke, Dave, and Mitch. Need to be stronger in the post and better passing out of it. Especially Doke.

Well let’s be honest we - - On to the next game. – ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY won, pretty easily but get Emporia St credit they kept trying especially in the 2nd half. combination of things they played more relaxed and our defensive intensity fell off for sure.
Observations: – Doke just looked really , really bad - - - I think 7 boards - -not sure how many to’s h had-- -still looks soo mechanical . like he is thinking way to much he is going to do. - -McCormack had a rough opener , - - -Vick looked really passive, - - But the worst of all ? - - - -WAY , WAY , to many turnovers , this part for having that many turnovers is inexcusable. – yet having played to say from great - - still win by 38 so ya - -lots of time for improvement and it was the 1st game - -for sure a lot of things to work on.
Now for some positive: Let’s just get this out here right off the bat - -sure it was Emporia State but still - - – D Lawson IS for real , let’s make no mistake about that. Sure he isn’t going to do this every time out but dam he mad it looks so smooth 31 - & 15 not a bad debut. – - - -Dotson just played a very solid game - - he going to be fine. - - - Garett had a good game on the boards like 8-9 I think – - - - Charlie hit some nice shots made a couple of nice passes - -Grimes was ok - -not terrific but ok.
I think I’m just to spoiled nit picking but I know there was others that probably have some of the same thoughts - it’s ok 1st game - Again probably the biggest letdown for me was WAY to many TO’s lots of work to do. – Every thing considered I don’t think Coach Self gonna really be that happy with tonight’s performance.-- -Not sure if I would be looking forward to tomorrow practice. - -Time for the next game - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Not really. I think he got double teamed a lot and hacked by ESU’s small guys and didn’t respond well to it.
