  @RockkChalkk I don’t think your drinking the Koo-aid at all. Though I’m starting to think Diallo is becoming a reach. No proof but Nike seems to be pulling out all the stops to get these top kids into Nike schools. I will say kind of love Nike turning it’s back on Coach Cal and UK. I had a feeling Slimy Cal and his arrogant ass would cost him in the end. At the end of the day for Nike it’s about selling shoes and apparel, and Coach Cal is bad for business. HCBS has done it before. Getting gems in the rough of what’s left over, and you’re right He’s done pretty good with transfers. Just off the top of my head Young, Whithey, and Black all turned out to be pretty good pickups. Though Black under preformed a bit he was a presence on the court. I’ll never forget when he backed down the opposing team all by himself. LOL That was classic.

  @drgnslayr As you put it, Kansas is “in the sticks.” As far as basketball recruiting is concerned, I agree. And it’s tough to get recruits from the East coast–or even the Eastern time zone–to commit to play “in the sticks.”. We’ve gotten a few blue chippers to play here but it seems it has been a small percentage. Since Roy Williams was from the East, it’s quite possible he realized that his chances to recruit a kid from that area of the country to KU would be minimal, so he focused elsewhere. He’s been lambasted for not recruiting those players, but maybe it’s understandable.

  @KU-Flyer we do need a full roster especially since 3 spots are guaranteed to be open after next year. If we don’t sign anymore players we could have as many as 8 spots open (yikes). 3 left over Scholarships, 3 guaranteed spots open and pending Svi & Selden draft decisions.

  @RedRooster Yes, Bill Russell not only belongs in a conversation about the greatest centers ever to play the game, but also in a conversation about the greatest humans ever to walk the planet. He faced many tough challenges in his life, along with many great victories; in my books, defining the word “winner!” @jaybate-1.0 I’m enjoying your take on all of this. I see the comparison of Kareem and Wilt as about a literal “Yin and Yang” situation as they come… especially when in context of comparing two male parts. Kareem is the Yin… the more passive “female” role. Willing to absorb the aggression of the Yang in order to persevere and conquer through patience and filling in all the space surrounding the aggression. Wilt is the Yang… the more dominant “male” role. Always pushing aggression and utilizing brute strength. He conquered the moment. Yin and Yang is the perfect metaphor for these two because both of their greatness could not be realized and described without the other. We couldn’t define Wilt’s strength as the dominant force over all the great centers without comparing his strength to the weaker Kareem. And we couldn’t define Kareem’s patience and shielded tool (skyhook) as greatness over premiere centers without showing how he could hang tough with Wilt on the floor. I seriously don’t see how one can be defined without the other. Bill Russell offers up something totally different. He can’t exactly be compared apples-to-apples, or oranges-to-oranges, but that does not mean the taste of a pear is any less sweet! By today’s standards, Russell is a power forward, not a true center. But he sure could fool a lot of people, including every player on the floor when he was on it!

  SF is a really critical position in the NBA right now. You’ve got Lebron and Durant leading a nice group of veterans, but also young stars like Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy Butler, as well as Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, Greek Freak, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if the early part of the draft was very wing heavy. You have to be able to match up with these guys on both ends and there are just so many guys that are really good at that position. Winslow has set himself apart because he is probably the best two way player of that group. However, I think Kelly has a chance to shine in workouts if he shows that he is the next best individual defender (although Stanley Johnson will be a factor there). Whichever player shows up defensively could move into the top 7, with the rest of the SF prospects falling in the late lottery.

  @JayHawkFanToo I know you raise great points. I’m just having a dream here, kind of like my dream to bring John Lucas to Lawrence. Dreams open up a lofty vision for possible direction. I think the idea of having someone capable in Lawrence ready to take this on in private business is an interesting idea that could also benefit KU hugely. It seems like it might do a lot more good than investing so much in luxury apartments.

  @KUinLA Wine is sacred in my family for many reasons. Let’s just say they’re religious! Ha! Totally agree with your points by the way. The reasoning is flawed. We want to blame drugs (which includes alcohol), not the abusers. Yet on an entirely different, yet parallel issue such as guns, we wish to blame the abusers and not the guns. I find it illogical. Interestingly enough, we hail from a state with a fierce and often violent history of progressiveness, perhaps best demonstrated by way of alcohol and the prohibition of it (Carrie A. Nation). Kansas led the way on the moral topics of that era, be it abolition or prohibition.

  P.S.: I am as vulnerable to this unease with the uncertainty and suspense with waiting for uncertain outcomes, as anyone. I don’t like that things have changed over from what they were. Self has gotten a lot of good players in the 20-100 rank and we have won 82%, 11 titles and a ring. Who wouldn’t want to perpetuate and improve on that? I would. I liked getting to know the players. Living and dying with their growth and peccadilloes and so on. I would like for Self to have been able to continue plucking the occasional OAD out of an imploding program, like Xavier and Josh, and continuing to rely heavily on the 3-5 year guys. I liked him putting players like Chalmers in the toughening box on and off for 3 seasons before unleashing them and watching them play brilliantly. But since NBA OAD rule has reached full adverse effect, and the PetroShoeCo-agent complex regime has responded as it has, and since the NCAA got hit with the Ed O’Bannon case, imploding basketball programs seem temporarily a thing of the past, fleeing OADs looking for an honest program non existent, and the likelihood of 3-5 year players winning against 9 and 10 stacks in the Final Four improbable, well, change hurts, but we have to find a path forward through the change and not back.

  @RockChalkinTexas Lol - he does OK, but definitely not what you would call "RICH*. More like found a really nice place on a golf course that an elderly lady lived in for maybe 40 years and it needed a lot of TLC. He bought it right and has fixed it up (mostly by himself) nicely! He used to play, now he saves his arm for the slot machines in OK and La.

  @VoyagingJayhawk Coaches wish for and work awesomely long hours for success and it is a terrible irony that it can make them more preyed upon, too. And Yes, a big time D1 coach has a long job description. And a Balkanized constituency. And imagine how tough things can get when neither your Chancellor, nor your AD, actually hired you, and your base did not pick them. They have no vested interest in you, unless your winning keeps you intensely popular and keeps a major donor base giving and supportive of you. If your winning slows even a little, and the alliances out of power come up with some hair brained, yet marketable angle for a switch, suddenly the “hogs to the trough” dynamic is set in motion! Ask Rick Barnes.

  The NCCA is a plan, a thought that has out lived it’s usefulness. It is nothing more than an ancient relic that belongs in a museum somewhere. Merely to remind persons and fans what once was. The NCCA has been neutered, when it gave the Power Five autonomy. They only reason they still exist is the Power 5 are using them as a buffer against potential law suits from other lesser conferences. You watch Louisville’s near death ban will be lifted and changed to nothing more than a year ban. See Pen state? The NCAA has no teeth no real power.

I love the complexity involved in the game and if I understood it better from an analytic standpoint then I could follow the pace of the game better in terms of where each guy is on the floor in relation to which position he plays and how they move through set plays and all your open/closed circuit systems. I love it. Give me more!
