  The way I read Bill Self’s decision to go with Jamari and Brannen for so many minutes at San Diego: currently, they are the two team members whose mental/emotional well being needed a boost. Of course, Brannen might not have gotten such an opportunity if Wayne hadn’t fallen into foul trouble two and a half minutes into the game. The second half flow was running smoothly with Jamari, so Self chose to ride with it. Will lack of game minutes slow the development of rising superstars Bragg and Diallo? Probably. On the flipside, maybe they will concentrate more in practice sessions, determined to correct errors which their coach saw in limited game minutes. I will side with the thought that Coach knows best how to advance team play while risking less chance of a pre-Christmas loss. After all, the Aztecs went on a Denzel Valentine- type tear, closing the gap to 4 points before getting hammered. Self’s the guy earning big bucks to keep his thumb on the pulse of a 13 year Jayhawk run with an 82% winning record. Gotta hope that Bragg and Diallo stay hungry and determined to advance. Perhaps, at this stage of the season, BIll Self is protecting them from the dismal headlines and criticism recently earned by the likes of John Calipari’s struggling Labissiere.

  @wissoxfan83 Thanks for posting. I think you pretty much nailed it, from my perspective. I’m looking forward to conference play to see how we stack up with Oklahoma, Baylor and Iowa State.

  @BeddieKU23 that sounds fine, but there is evidence as far as DUKE anyways which was surpose to be the heavy hitter being reported and even repeated in here by some, people sayin Oh he wanted to play with and or along Giles, people sayin NO chance he is coming to KU definitely solid on DUKE. then low and behold the aticle last night says very close between KU and Fla State with Fla State a slim lead and that Duke had just hollered at him a couple of days ago, which again tells me, even if he was so rock solid DUKE, then why at the last minute they all of a sudden holler a Adulike? what that tells me is, that sure they have been recruiting Marques, but now feel they have lost out on him or not much chance of getting him, that’s why they holler at Adulike, I feel Marques ends up landing HERE have always felt we had a really got shot, just have to wait and see.   @Bwag At the game if he is taking notes for the post-game story, the chat transcript would be as good as any set of notes; not all that different than having the chat hosted by his newspaper. If he does not travel and he is watching the game at home on his own time, he can do whatever he wants.

  Wayne Simien is another example of a superior college player that was not meant to be great in the NBA. NBA scouts saw his NBA potential or lack thereof and he was drafted way below where his college number would indicate. In all fairness, maybe his heart just was not in the NBA and he had a higher calling…

  My point with this thread is that we should never be intimidated because of height. We are bound to face some tree-like teams and post players this season. That doesn’t mean we think the way we were thinking when we were smoked by Kentucky last year. We gave them just what they wanted… a shorter opposition who never used a shot fake or created scoring space… just took it up right in the teeth of their big guys. I would like to think we can be just a wee bit more sophisticated this year. Stop focusing on our disadvantages and focus on our advantages. We aren’t going to overcome physics. If we bring shots in on a 7’6" player that can dunk flat-footed we get what we deserve. But if we decide to look at these kinds of match ups as the “glass is half full” then we quickly realize what a huge advantage we have by going up against guys that are 7’6". Like… how the heck is that guy going to fight through an off-ball screen? I hope UCI runs at least two 7-footers at a time. We should focus off-ball screens on these two. They’ll either foul out immediately, or they will be way too late on the switch or jump out. Maybe we will even see Perry use another shot fake! Wouldn’t that be something! The only way these footers can be effective is if they go straight up and down to defend. Anything else should be ripe low-picking fruit for us drawing fouls.
