  @nuleafjhawk Thanks for the concern. Not at all depressed. Just came to a realization that I don’t need sports when they mix politics and stupid politics at that. Focused on trying to retire by putting my investments on steroids. Working hard via Zoom (yes, that’s kinda depressing). And ride my mountain bike nearing 1500 miles on beautiful single track trails this year. @approxinfinity haven’t thought about BLM since the season began either. BTW, when did the season start? I just had had enough of sports being politicized with stupid communist groups and socially destructive movements. Big fan of Jason Whitlock and his perspective. At this point, it’s as much I won’t pay for a feed that support idiot tv stations. May pick some games to go to a bar/restaurant and watch. But will no longer support Universities. Don’t care if they burn down and go broke. Actually, hope they burn down and go broke. Guess that’s why I posted here and not on the bball section. I think we’re ranked and doing well. Guess one thing that made me aware college bball was going on was an article with Mike Consonants saying the season should be cancelled when Zero Hedge was laughing at him because his team was something like 2-2 since no home court advantage.

There is wide support for aid to schools to keep open, though and has received nearly unanimous GOP support. Like pulling teeth to get Schumer to say yes to anything. Makes me wonder if, like Pelosi, his position is contingent on the outcome of the Georgia races. Regardless, the final package will look similar to a lot of proposals floating around: liability shield, refueled PPP, expanded UI, aid to state and locals, additional funding for the health sector and schools, mayyybe another round of (likely smaller) checks. The rest is just posturing. McConnell won’t get his “skinny” bill and Pelosi won’t get her $3 trillion monstrosity. They’ll land around $1 trillion and we’ll all just keep rolling.

  @mayjay a teacher friend of mine told me her 30 yr old daughter was a bridesmaid in an outdoor wedding this summer and got COVID. She was really sick.

  @mayjay Black people certainly are not a monolith who all have the same desires and beliefs so yeah simple solutions will not work. My complaint is if everyone thinks like the appraiser in the article that well it’s not really our problem, nothing is going to change. It’s going to take all of us. To me at this point, if you aren’t thinking about how your industry is contributing to systemic racial inequity and trying to actively promote equity, than what are you doing? As you and @FarmerJayhawk illustrate, the issue is so vast and multifaceted it’s impossible for one organization to solve on their own. To promote a more equitable society takes a MASSIVE collaboration between government, community, and industry. If a person in a leadership role can look at those massive disparities and think, meh, not my problem, than I don’t have much use for them honestly. Just get out of the way and let someone who cares lead. I get that it’s hard to think about because of all the variable you rightly raise but to refuse to address it is in my opinion immoral.

  @Hawk69 who are you referring to pretending to be a doctor, Trump? That one is orders of magnitude worse. Pretending to be Native American or black for personal gain is not great, but I think it’s a little silly for Krug to identify it as a “violent act”. I’d be more inclined to call pretending to be a doctor, leading to loss of life as a violent act.

  I was born and lived in Sulphur until I was in kindergarten before moving to Houston. Still have a few family friends in the Sulphur/Lake Charles area and I believe they all evacuated once reports came out Laura was going to be worse than Rita was back in 2005. The Weather Channel was holed up at the Golden Nugget which is on the south side of Lake Charles on the Calcasieu River and one of their reporters, Stephanie Abrams, was on air doing a report last night a little after 1am when glass from the balcony above her shattered and she had to quickly run back inside the hotel for cover. I really want to drive over and see how the house I lived in when I was kid over there cared, but I really wouldn’t be shocked if it sustained significant wind damage last night.
